    It is odd to fail 4th kyu. In my experience they'd normally just give you a lower rank (5 kyu) instead. Perhaps that's just our federation.

    You should be able to get feedback from the panel. They'll tell you what you were doing incorrectly.

    I also did not know that white was considered flashy, considering so many people wear it. I've seen a majority of shinsa candidates wear white tenugui. If I recall correctly, the first bogu set I bought 10 years ago also came with a default, white tenugui.

    Lifting the toes can compromise your balance and reduce reaction speed (and also telegraph intent). To fix this, think of trying to draw a line with your big toe every time you move forward.
