    I think you'll find several (if not a majority of) kenshi tend to transition between kasumi / seigan / gedan / whathaveyou when fighting against jodan....

    By opposite side you mean from above? My guess is you'd basically be depending on your right hand to power the strike, using your left fist as a fulcrum. Also, unless you're far enough, you wouldn't be striking the kote with the top third of the shinai, and even if you were, you'd have to tie yourself...

    I'm mentally trying to imagine using hasso in keiko but am unable to come up with any waza that could be effectively executed from that position, except perhaps tobikomi men.

    My work-related trips have never been more than 3-4 days. I've only taken my bogu twice, and that was when I flew Southwest (checked bags were free).

    I don't take my bogu when on vacation since my wife and I try to pack as much sightseeing into the trip as possible.
