I've been using the e-mudo bag for around 3 years. It's held up well; everything is still intact, although I can't say I've put it through rigorous travel. I've only flown with it once, and on that...
I wish I could rep you. These are excellent! Informative and entertaining at the same time.
I know a guy who commutes to kendo from work and he sometimes leaves his keikogi on his bike in the parking lot for a few hours, to dry in the sun. Used keikogi probably has zero resale value, so the...
Nevertheless, I don't see why they should be forbidden from joining in if they want to or feel capable. Everyone's paying the same fees.
Edit: I am not sure whether people were forbidden from...
I asked around and I have heard that this could be a problem for other federations who carry their own insurance, if the AUSKF is named in a lawsuit in addition to the federation. However, neither I...
Excellent! I hope you guys can get something permanent started. I am especially keen on getting information regarding the group that practises in Delhi, since that makes up a major portion of my...
No harm in asking someone at the dojo. We have a visitor at our dojo for the summer who's without a car, and he's always managed to get a ride.
Quite coincidentally.
Just heard that the kodansha shinsa will proceed as scheduled since AUSKF has obtained single-event coverage. NCKF dojo practice is still on hold.
I know someone in Bangalore who left the US with nidan (he practised kendo in the Bay Area and East Coast). If you send me your email address via PM I can put the two of you in touch.
I also read...
I am told that although yesterday's godo keiko was cancelled, the board meeting was not. It seems likely that this matter would have been discussed. Still awaiting updates though.
That would make sense. Both of our practice locations (Buddhist temple and school gym) require proof of coverage.
Seems like it's just NCKF since it looks like business as usual everywhere else. I wonder why, though.
The odd thing is that the email that was forwarded to us says "Until we receive new insurance coverage please suspend all kendo related practices, including but limited to (sic) Godo Keiko, Kyoka...
Sucks a lot. We're already about to miss quite a bit of keiko over summer because one of our locations is at a school, and the school year is about to end. I hope this is resolved quickly.
You can't even get to the level of attempting the test without spending time concentrating purely on the physical traits of kendo. I'm not sure there are too many hachidan who haven't spent entire...
I think this was discussed in a thread a couple of years ago (am trying to dig it up using Google using site:kendo-world.com). If I recall correctly, one of the points raised in that discussion was...
Mune-zuke (tsuki to the mune part of the doh).
Did you mean 'left'? That's how we do it (senior most person is on the left). I guess this just reinforces the point that since every dojo is a little different, it's always safest to ask.
How could I forget this one: men himo unravelled between my first and second shodan shinsa matches. Withdrew from the court, sat in seiza, and retied my men, fully aware of a hundred pairs of eyes...
Oddly enough, that's how I was taught as well, when I started kendo under a Korean instructor. Is this method unique to kumdo? I've never seen this taught at any other kendo dojo.
A few months ago someone farted loudly during mokuso. That everyone kept calm reflects well on our dojo.
Bear in mind that as you advance to yondan and above, part of your allocated kendo time will be used to instruct others, so the number of hours you get to practice your kendo will decrease.
Sorry, don't know if there are any nuances - I've seen some jodan kumdo in Youtube videos, but none in person. I believe the term for jodan in Korean is sangdan.
