    I've always been curious

I personally wear very loose fitting "airy" shorts under my Hakama (some go "commando")

what do most ladies wear under their hakama? LOL. no it's a serious question. I'm a guy, and tried to wear running/compression shorts and found it relatively hot and constricting )especially in Sonkyu.

I doubt it, but have any of you ladies gone "comando?"

Unfortunately i dont go commando due to the fear of my hakama accidently falling down or some other bizarre thing.

    I just wear slack shorts.

Though I am a guy, I just wear regular boxer-briefs.

I've got to say, you must have big brass ones to post this question here. You seem to be serious though.

I usually wear running shorts under my hakama because I like to be able to whip my hakama off and pack up without having to go into the bathroom and change. Also, I find that it soaks up the sweat so I don't have it dripping down my legs making the floor all slippery. I sweat so much during keiko that my keikogi doesn't catch it all. What kind of running shorts are you wearing? I usually wear the type with the slit up the side. I think this link will work. Or I wear this with nylon panties underneath.

As for the commando question... the closest I've gone to that is wearing nothing but a g-string (didn't have time to change after work). It was very uncomfortable. I did not like the feel of the keikogi on my bare cheeks or well... let's just say sonkyo really sucked that day.

Hm.. What does "going commando" mean? Does it mean that you do not wear underwear? (I'm German ;D)

Yep, that's what it means. Also known as "freedom kendo".

To answer the question, no I don't practise commando either. In the odd event that I manage to forget to bring clean underwear to put on after practice I prefer to walk home commando. I live VERY close to the dojo, though. I wear the same cotton panties for practice that I would wear normally. Don't see any reason not to. Although like runsyi, I have learnt the hard way which panties not to wear.
Ha! Four of you and you still can't take me....Pose.......Ugh, blood and brains, don't want to mess up my saya....Flick....okay, it's clean now.....Noto.......End! //Decado

    That´s what it means.
I´ve been thinking of going commando many times but never dared to do it.

I'll wear anything that will stay in it's place and has some coverage so if the gi moves my butt will not show through the slits...which happened once.

Commando on the way home, don't bother to bring new ones.

Your butt showed through the slits? How did that happen?

I had some high cut panties, could have been some g-string like thing, and the hakama has wide and deep slits, and the gi had shifted. The sensei was giving me these looks, and I couldn't figure out why...until I looked at what he was looking at, big part of the butt showing from the side....that was embarrassing.

Mine aren't brass, but a guy can't go wrong with nice, roomy cotton boxers. For reasons stated on another thread, they won't do for gals, at least not all of the time.

Well I disagree with that. I go commando every once in a while under my hakama but prefer not to (which is a little odd in a way since I am usually commando when I wear my jeans to work and stuff). I prefer to wear compression shorts when I keiko. It makes me feel more secured if ya catch my drift.

I catch ya. A guy I know mentioned that he always wears bike shorts when practicing on concrete floors.
