Wah! I missed last week's shiai and your match with sempai! Sayang! Mariwitch forgot to mention this to me. Hmm...

How's everyone, by the way? Hope to visit the dojo soon!

P.S. Try to catch Eiga Sai on July 8. For more info check out the Japan Foundation website! http://www.jfmo.org.ph/

And I would say that they DO LOVE FRESH MEAT! I had a taste of my very first Shiai just last saturday and UNFORTUNATELY... my first match was with my sempai... a 3rd Dan!!! I found my first match and the first MEN strike I got funny... 'cause I had no clue that he already hit me in the head!!! I had a chance to strike back but I think it wasn't good enough or wasn't good at all... I think I hit him in the mengame... Well... that's a good start... but most of all.

....IT WAS AN HONORABLE DEATH! HAHAHA

Not to worries July '08 batch... soon you'll get to taste THE WRATH OF MY SHINAI AND IT'S PAYBACK TIME!!!! WAHAHAHAHAHA STAY AWAY FROM THE FAT GUY WITH FACIAL HAIR!!!!!

You'll find the training really fun!
When was the last time you did something for the first time?

Saturday was fun. Now I'm back in this boring office and work sucks!!! I just can't wait for the next training session. Expect me to come back for the 2nd day of training. YAY!!!

I have to say that the first training day left a very great impression on me. I have decided and now I'm committed to practice Kendo on a long-term basis.

I have no problems with the Japanese counting cuz I've been practicing it since last week. But I have another question, I apologize cuz I have a very poor memory now. How do you say "Thank you very much" in Japanese? And there's another one that we should say after bowing down, I also don't remember it. Sorry!!!
Shay plays on the fade slice like a ninja

Well, glad to know you had fun on the first day. Hope you do commit to it long term. Even if kendo gets frustrating and more and more difficult, the rewards more than offset the difficulties you'll face.

    Anyway, back to instructor mode...

Good that you practiced counting...but as R-senpai said, you'll have to try counting LOUDER! So expect him and me to continue blasting our kiai in your ears, while I-san is correcting posture. And "Thank you very much" is "Domo arigato gozaimasu", while what you are supposed to say before practice starts is "Onegai shimasu".

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers!

Also new here, here's what limited knowledge I know in japanese: i think before the practice session starts, at the third time that we're going to bow i think you have to say "onegaishimasu" (probably means 'please teach me' or something... correct me guys if i'm wrong ^-^x

then, after practice, we're supposed to say "arigato gozaimashita" (means formal thank you) at the final bow because the sensei had imparted us with another teaching in kendo...

    hope i helped. ^-^x

Oops, my bad...you're right. Forgot about the "-shita" rule when finishing something. Thanks for the correction.

Are you also a beginner with the July class? Just curious...

    Cheers!

Sorry about that sempai, when i checked the posts earlier I didn't see that you already answered the question. i did not mean to correct you.

Good morning! I was part of July beginners class last saturday. I was the one (I think) who was having the hardest time doing seiza. Can anyone give me tips in improving it. I have been trying to extend the time I can do it at home. The best I can do is 4 minutes, and I think that is not good enough. Thank you in advance.
