I'm from the Boston University Kendo Club. I'm coming to the Philippines for my summer vacation and I was wondering if I could join the beginners class? I started Kendo in September and our club meets 3 times a week for 2 hours each if that helps you in any way.

Thank you very much. I hope to join your club in the 3rd week of may.

    Thanks again in advance,
    Christophe Chuidian.
Hi there Christophe, I hope you do join us when you come visit the Philippines. We'll be looking forward to seeing you. Keep on swinging.

Excuse me. I'm interested in joining sana. But I want to know the details here, since your main site is under construction.

I also have a few questions regarding the qualification. First off, are females welcome? Second, I'm really new to this and I'm already old (going 19), is it too late for me?

Hi, it's good to know that you're interested in taking up kendo. Actually, the answers to your queries are right here in this thread (and more useful info). But to quickly answers them:

Members of the fairer gender are most welcome. Kendo is for everybody.

You are not old and it's not too late for you. Our members' age range from 15 to 60+. In fact, I would greatly encourage you to join now so that you can develop your kendo early on.

Speaking of which (joining), it would do you well to visit the dojo and enlist for the June/July batch. MKC allows individuals to join only twice a year, one in June and the other January. The club also requires that those interested to join should watch a practice before joining. We practice every Saturday, 5 to 7 pm (except during the last Saturday of every month, the schedule is 4 to 7 pm) at the RFM Gym, Pioneer, Boni. I hope you can drop by. See you soon.

July is fast approaching and that'll be the start of the new class. I used to be a member of MKC until I got a foot injury and can no longer practice. I'm selling my bogu set with bag which will include the gi, hakama, 2 shinai, tenugi (head towel) all for 11k. This package will definitely be a huge savings on your part... if I may ask, what's your height? reason for asking if for me to know if the bogu is just the right size for you. if you're interested please do contact me at 0917 517 7285 and look for Paul.

    Hi!

I'd also like to join training for Kendo. Is the enlistment still ongoing? I haven't watched a practiced session yet, but I will this weekend if the enlistment is still ongoing (or on a later date if it's already closed ><).

    Thanks~

I think it's still ongoing. You should go this weekend regardless -- it'll be interesting .... and perhaps fun. Go.

Is there anything else I need to know or bring when I watch the practice and/or signup? Or maybe someone I should look for?
    Thanks!

That's great. Hope to see you soon. Look for Mr. Yukita and/or Mrs. Yukita and ask for details on how to join. For a map on how to go there click here.

chotto ne minna, watashi wa Maru desu. an 18 year old sophomore college student. I am really interested in Kendo. I actually browsed this post a few days ago and followed the map to get inquiries but I got lost on foot and I was not able to get to the location. I was hoping if I could go back next week to enlist myself this coming July's Beginner's Class as of what I've read. I hope I'm not too late

I believe you're just about right on time. I do hope you find the dojo on your next try. It's near Madison Square and Joey Pepperoni's. See you soon!

WOW!!! Yesterday was my first practice with the senior class. I must say that I got traumatized. My hands were even shaking when I was putting on my tenugi.

To the seniors, I'm sorry about yesterday cuz I made a lot of mistakes especially when I was your motodachi. If you noticed, I was the smallest guy from the advanced beginners class. Yes, I was sooooo terrible yesterday. But I promise that I will improve next week........ And by the words of the Terminator, "OUCH! MY BACK!!!". Oh wait, I mean, "I'LL BE BACK!!!"
