    a hitman reborn fan i see.

    hi jaize, next date for taking in new students will be on the 1st saturday of july this year (july 3). but you have to attend at least one training session before that date (which is 5-7 every saturday, 4-7 every end-of-the-month saturday). there is no contact/mobile number available. just come to the RFM gym (in the FAAAR back of Robinson's Pioneer). 14 years old? i think you have to bring your parents with you. i think. im not too privy with the details with regards to age. just in case youll know all what you need to know once you visit the gym.

    @JaizeFTW - You need your parents to sign a waiver form because you're underage.

    Hello Pinoy kendokas!

    Can we share why we decided to learn/study kendo?

    I'll start, I decided to take kendo because I really enjoy martial arts(I used to be a taekwondo jin back in high school). I like the benefits I get in training, not just physical but the mental aspects as well, it promotes self discipline/self improvement and respect, plus you get to fight lots of challenging opponents then be friends(wow! you can hangout with people who you just beat/beat you earlier! how cool is that?). Initially, I thought that martial arts can only give you fighting skills you need in street fighting but that was my wrong impression, because there are martial arts that is almost useless when used in a real fight/self defense and that includes kendo but hey! kendo never aimed to become an effective self defense anyways(see purpose and concept of kendo), it's a way to cultivate ourselves not really to slash the people around.

    Some minor reasons why I took kendo is that I'm also a fan of some Japanese anime/manga which is related to sword based martial arts and I like samurai stories and jedi knights(LOL!).

    A shinai is supposed to be a safer substitute for a real Katana. With the slashing techniques taught to us, it will be definitely deadly with a Katana. Well, anyone with a Katana without any training can be deadly in any street fight situation. All you need to do is to swing it with minimal defense. What more, if you are trained in Kendo, you know where to strike and slash - the throat, the head, the stomach area, and the wrist with quick deadly force. It takes only one single accurate strike like lightning, your opponent will be seriously bleeding to death or maybe losing a hand or disemboweled. No martial artist without a weapon can defend himself effectively. You are literally a samurai with the Katana. So, every time we train, I treat the shinai like a Katana like it should be. I hope I did not scare anyone here. haha! Well, anyway, I joined Kendo because I think it looks very interesting. So, out of the blue, I joined in. And, I was hoping to see some Japanese girls training with us. hehe.. just joking. Well, there are more guys there than girls. lol

    Why did I learn/study Kendo?

    Well, I first knew about and got interested in Kendo when Mr. Zapata (The guy in the middle during warm-ups) came over to my uncle's house for a party.
    He brought out and lent us his Shinai and Bokuto. Then BAM!! I instantly fell in love with it for some mysterious unknown reason. XD
    Hehe, yeah, and also maybe because it was like a fulfillment to a childhood dream...
    My parents also approved of it since it helps and develops discipline. My sister is taking up Aikido and they asked me to join her, but I opt for Kendo instead.
    Also the attraction of being in (as far as I know) the only Kendo club in the Philippines.
    Plus, my Sophomore Music teacher, a former member, kind of encouraged me as well. X3

    Is the Manila Kendo Club affiliated with FIK, or is it in the process of being affiliated?

    Thumbs up

    Guys, make sure to practice every day to perfect your suburi and footwork because evaluation will be on June. I think they will also evaluate perfect attendance. We don't want anyone of our batch to be left behind. So get your a$$ out there and practice.

    @nimrod19 - Yes, it's affiliated. http://qcs.eu/kendo_en.html

    Why did I learn/study Kendo?

    i was fascinated by the sport a looong time ago (anime boom days). i opted to practice kendo because of the mentality it brings about, and the physical perks it entails from training.

    Hello everyone! I'm interested in joining the club. I'm 17 years old turning 18... do I still need my parents supervision in joining? XD
    Is there a tuition fee or membership fee? Should I have the equipment already when I join? What should I bring when I come to the gym?
    Thanks ^^

    @asakuramoe - If you're 18 on July, no need.

    Tuition fee - P1,500 / 2 months
    Membership fee - P2,000 / year

    For beginners, just wear any exercise outfit, but the pants should be about 3/4 length. You might want to bring a liter of water to refresh yourself as training takes 2 hours. For the equipment, you may get your shinai (wooden sword) from the club which costs P2,000 plus the shinai bag which is around P850.

    Don't forget to watch the training session before you enroll.

    No doubt about that! but only if you have the chance to start from a distance and you always carry your sword around.

    hmm, I was also hoping for that but even non-Japanese girls will be fine for me, because for me, cute girls becomes even cuter when they do kendo LOL!
