I come from Pque. so it also takes some time for me to get to the GYM/Dojo. You could regularly attend, just as you make sure to finish all activities before 4 pm Saturday.
    I look forward to seeing you~ :3

    BTW, what's SHS?

I'm sorry but I don't think this is the only kendo dojo in Manila. The Japan International School has a kendo program for their students that has been around for years and used to be taught by a Japanese 7th dan sensei named Sensei Ninomiya who used to live in San Lorenzo Village. Sensei Ninomiya has since returned to Japan but he has been replaced by another high ranking sensei who continues the program. Unfortunately their classes are taught in Japanese and is part of their physical education curriculum, so you have to be Japanese and a student there to get into the class.

There is also a class taught by a Japanese 5th dan at one of the condominiums in Makati. An article came out about it two months ago, but when I went there the class was made up of mostly kids (about 20 of them). I've also been told that UP in Diliman used to have a kendo club made up of Japan expats who were working there, and there are plans to revive this. My problem is I live in Alabang and all these places are quite far for me.

Makati is my best bet because going home to the South on a Saturday night is not fun. Isn't there any plans to expand out to be able to reach more people?

Check your inbox please. Oh, and sensei goes after the person's name, not before.

hmm sorry my bad, i guess i was a bit misinformed. >.<

i really didnt know that other venues of learning kendo were available in the country. come to think of it i kinda heard about that 'news' in UP Diliman several weeks ago. well i always say the more the merrier!

about expanding out.. it would certainly benefit many people and the appreciation for the art, but im not really one to give a credible answer to that. hehe

lot of info -- queries and answers about kendo training on various places in the philippines. theres a little bit of info about the kendo club in UP. quoting from the thread:

Our club was called Yuukan Kendo Club and we practiced in UP 2nd half of 2000 to 2003. We weren't affiliated with UP (tho' almost all seniors were UP alumni) but we got to use the UP Vanguard martial arts dojo through the
kindness of some Vanguard members who were really devoted martial artists. This might be why some people called it the UP Kendo Club, when there really wasn't any.

We've actually practiced once or twice with a couple of members of the Manila Kendo Club back in 2001 but we didn't do shiai or keiko with them so I'm also wondering about the girl (in the story in another post) who implied that the MKC had a match with a UP kendo club. IIRC, we just did the usual zuburi and drills and then pigged out on burgers afterwards Can't think of who this girl fr UP might be as at that time, except for my sis and her friend, all of us girls were through studying, and none of us would've said something like that ;P

I owe a lot to my old club so I felt that I should debunk what to me seem weird Anyway, am now practicing with MKC and am enjoying it very much ^___^ See you!

Last month's announcement is that once a member of MKC, we're not allowed to be a member of another Kendo dojo.

@kendogirl - wow, you seem to know a lot of these unknown Kendo location in Manila. I guess these are exclusives. I don't think Makati is that far from the RFM gym because after practice on Saturdays, I often go to Glorietta to get some dinner. It's just about 15 mins away. Besides, from the South, we take the EDSA route going to the RFM gym. Just turn right upon seeing the globe telecom building, and the gym is just a couple of minutes away. We also take the EDSA route going to Makati. So, I think the time difference between these 2 locations is almost negligible. This all boils down not on distance, but on preference.

Ohhhh.... Okay. Thanks! My dad really wanted me to learn fencing but I told him, "kendo na lang" so he's, should i say, encouraging me? my mom is, well, she's worried that i might not handle it...even if i'm an honor student in our school (not being a braggart ). so it all depends on my schedule. SHS is School of the Holy Spirit.

    Hello,

Can someone give me the suburi sequence at the start of the session. Would be good to get the important details of each
    exercise.

    Thanks,

    Justin

If you're talking about the suburi sequence we do(MKC) after the warm up/stretching, here is the usual order. Please feel free to correct me if there's something wrong

    1. Joge suburi - full swing
    2. katate suburi - one hand(left hand) suburi
    3. men uchi san kyo do - 3 step men cut(head)
    4. men uchi ni kyo do - 2 step men cut(head)
    5. kote uchi ni kyo do - 2 step kote cut(wrist)
    6. kote men - combination of #4 and #5
    7. sayu men - forward-backward then right-left men cut
    8. haya suburi - continous men strike with jumping forward-backward steps
