    At Home Suburi Shinai

Hello All! It's been a few days now since I've been off from work, so I've had time to construct myself a short suburi shinai for home use that I can use with both hands and not touch the ceiling. I've attached a picture of it here (and I hope the attachment works). As soon as I figure out how to attach pictures without exceeding my 10kb limit on attachments, I'll write a step by step.

looks like the correct lenght... to keep the balance a bit more i take off 4inches from the base and from the tsuka (and hence add it to the top), it looks a bit better too, i'll try to post a pic later.

One of the shinai weights work well with that.

Not exactly sure, but I used a carriage bolt with three nuts screwed in as a sakigomu to give it more tip weight to simulate a full sized shinai. I may add more weight on the tip as well somehow. BTW, anyone know how to put pictures straight into the posts?

I've never tried it on this forum, but usually you need to first get the image hosted on a site like PhotoBucket, then post the image link that they provide in an [IMG][/IMG] tag.

Quite interesting. I can't wait to see the step by step.

I'm interested to know people's opinions though: what is the difference in balance between a shorter and longer shinai of similar weight, and how does this effect training?
