what did you wear to dojo before you work hakama/keiko-gi?

there i was, after being sick for awhile, i went back to dojo for first time in 3 weeks. most of those 3 weeks were spent in bed being sick.. barely able to eat anything other than rice and water.. feeling rather weak, and no energy.. and what do i see in the dojo? a new student. rather young, cute looking girl. asian.. by the look of her face, she is korean, but her legs say she's japanese. wearing almost nothing... that is tank top, and short short gym shorts.. basically leaving nothing to imagination.

and, i'm thinking.. yes, we tell the beginners that they need to wear something comfortable, and something where we can see their legs for footwork, but that's just too little on a full grown girl.

what did rest of you ladies wore to your first kendo class?

I'll make sure to bring the boeing-o-love with me.

On a slightly more serious note, and back on topic surprisingly enough, we had a young lady a while back who, whilst dressed aproppriately enough outside, seemed to be lacking in (hmm, how to tactfully put it...) "inner control" shall we say.....I find these things difficult to approach without coming across as lecherous, so I had to ask one of the female members of the dojo to mention it to her.......anyone else had this, and how did you deal with it? It was fairly off putting during keiko, but totally impossible to mention.

you mean the big bouncing distraction its a tricky situation on one hand, it distracts from your kendo, on the other hand, it can sometimes be such a pretty sight
...Giant rubber ball!....She held me closely in her arms... really strange fingers.... big Explosion!.... on top of the church... ...I'm afraid I dont remember very much ... I was very, very drunk.

Sounds like normal gym clothes. You can tell it is spring, hormones are in full bloom and you aren't getting any . Take a cold shower Pete, your not training in Afghanistan.

typical korean girls have rather straight legs. typical japanese girls have bowed leg. this girl's legs were somewhere in between. some what bowed.

yes.. we are not in afghanistan. and i do enjoy beautiful sights.. but at kendo dojo? that's like adding water to my beer.. or ice to my whisky.. or.. or.. drinking unsweeten iced tea below bible belt! actually.. i prefer my iced tea without sugar.

uh... where have u been? haha. all girls dress like that these days, even when they're just out shopping or walking around. And they usually go to the gym wearing sports bra and spendex short shorts. Haven't seen that from a kendo person, though. But tank top and short shorts i've seen plenty (at kendo).

I wore t-shirt and loose training trousers back then. I've never seen any of our female kohai wear less than that yet, maybe because our dojo is very breezy but I don't know in summer time.

Hm, maybe I'm a prude as well, but I figured that I shouldn't wear anything that short to practise... I wore a t-shirt and sweatpants, and that's what every other beginner I've seen until now does.
I don't think my instructor would allow tank tops and/or shorts...

That's the same as I wore, and also the same as what we ask our beginners to wear to practice. Then of course, we don't have much problems with high temperatures...

I wore a big hooded sweatshirt and sweat pants. It was winter when I started.
But thats what I usually wear to the gym anyhow. Wouldn't think of wearing things that let bits of flab hang out, or excessive bouncing.. that starts to hurt.
After the first practices I would feel really bad about not working up much of a sweat after seeing everyone else take off thier men, So i headed straight for the gym afterwards, it was really convient to be dressed for it already.
must try not to disappoint people who let you hit them.
