    Exclamation Dubai Kendo Dojo

Okay before you all go on about how there is no kendo dojo in Dubai, hear me out.

Alrighty, my name is Sai yi feng (my chinese name). Right now I'm in China for the summer and training in a dojo in Shanghai. After speaking with my sensei, he told me he would help me open a kendo dojo in dubai!

So i called up the Japanese consulate in dubai (the embassy redirected me to the consulate) and

    I got this answer:"What's kendo?"

I finally managed to talk to someone who knew what kendo was but i couldn't hear him properly (bad connections for an international call).

Anyways, after speaking with my sempai he gave me a few ideas. I want to round up everyone who is interested in opening a dojo in dubai (united we stand, divided we fall!) and we can thoroughly discuss our course of action.

We need to communicate with the consulate and search through the Japanese community in dubai. We could always talk to the International kendo federation if we have any more problems, but for now we need to unite and search through the Japanese community.

I would call up the consulate again, but international calls are costly (and they keep putting me on hold). From what I could hear was the guy was telling me to call him back when I come back to Dubai (which will be late August). Right now, I can easily communicate with my senseis here which can advise me on what to do and we can use their connections. That's why I don't want to wait till I go back, it'll be harder keeping in contact with them.

    -Sai Yi Feng

I don't have anything to say about dojo but

If you have yahoo messenger and call from your computer, it is very cheap.

thanks, do you have any advice on how to open a kendo dojo? I admit I'm still pretty new to kendo (only have trained for less than two months) and I really want to continue!

uhh. This is about Kendo, and not Karate.

Anyway, since this topic was re-opened. How did the Dubai Kendo situation go?

I think that Peile meant that some people started kendo training in a karate dojo.

    Thumbs up

    Don't mention it.
This is great news, you should PM Sai Yi Feng about it.

Training sessions are saturdays, mondays, and wednesdays at 13:30. Recommend those interested to be there shortly after 13 on a saturday if you, like most of us, work during the week.

Out of interest, do you permit women to take part in the kendo club there?

    Unhappy hey guys

Sorry its been a while, uni has been hectic and all.

Anyways receieved your PMs, thank you so much. I contacted the Japanese embassy and they did tell me about that dojo on al wasal road, karate center. A sensei teaches there 1:30pm.

By the way lessons are 50 DHS.

So now that we got that settled.

I need advice guys, we got the dojo, the sensei, the equipment! Sounds great right? I don't know about you guys, but transportation is a big issue especially with the cab fares these days (ah Shanghai how i miss thee for cheap cab fares). So any ideas on this transportation problem? No can't drive and renting a car is too much, any friend of mine with a car has no interest in kendo.

I was thinking of starting a kendo club in my uni, that way I can get a bus with a cheap fare and everything, but i want to explore my other options before i head the path of dangerous paperwork and annoying supervisors...

I need some info too. I practised kendo in Malaysia and just moved to Dubai few months ago. Still looking for a dojo. I only bring my kendogi and hakama. I have difficulties bringing the shinai, bokken, bogu over. No place to store too.
