I can see "go" and "dai", but the last one is unintelligible. Looks like "kin/gin" (metal/gold) over land, with water radical on side. But cannot find this one in dictionary.

What does this say and what does it mean?

the kanji translates to "5 big paint". ..

五大 refers to the five elements: earth (地), water (水), fire (火), wind (風) and emptiness (空).

Sorry, just looked it up and there's another meaning to 五大: the Godai Myōō (五大明王) or five radiant lords of esoteric Buddhism (密教).

I imagine 'godai nuri' is some kind of lacquering or finish, but I've never heard of it before.
