did kendo originated in the sengoku jidai ??

someone told me, kendo originated in the sengoku jidai or warring states era.???
Is there any book or link where i can verified these, i could find any information about it

KW had an article about the origin of kendo. It was very in depth. Maybe someone on here still remembers the link. I think the article was more about the developement of bogu, but it still explained the history of kendo.
