    Bogu measurement.

Hellooooooo Everybody! how are you doing?

I have been looking at many bogu online and read about them in WKF,

and I heard many people talking about quality.

I am just wondering what is (Bu) & (mm) how is it measure?

What is the different about the two measurement?

And why does the (Bu) cost more than the (mm)???

Can anyone explain it to me please or find a chart that compair them

, because I am confuse between the two.

    Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

If bogu is specified as measured in millimetres (mm) then it is machine stitched and the measurement refers to the widest distance between the rows of stitches. For cheaper machine-stitched bogu, all the rows are the same distance apart. For better bogu, some will be closer to reinforce critical areas.

If bogu is specified as measured in bu (older Japanese measurement, 1 bu == ~3 mm) then it is hand-stitched and the measurement refers to the width of the little squares formed by the stitching process. Of course hand-made anything is more expensive than machine-made.

    Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
You can have all your extra "U"s back, we don't need them.

    Thank you for clearifing that.

But just to get things more clear...

Generally speaking, handmade is better than machinemade and the lower the number the better. However it becomes difficult to compare between brands of bogu. Definitely there are some high-quality 5 mm bogu out there that are better than cheap 3 mm. There may even be some machine-stitched bogu that are better than some hand-stitched. You get what you pay for - if the deal is too good to be true, it often is.

There are other issues. There are now 2.5 or even 2.0 mm machine-stitched sets available - some feel that the stitching is too close, making the padding not so effective. Also a really high-quality machine-stitched set is pretty stiff and takes a long time to break in - if you are a beginner who doesn't practice much, you may actually be happier with a cheaper, softer set to start.

Even in hand-stitched sets, many people feel prefer 1.2 or even 1.5 to 1.0 bu as the 1.0 tends to be more stiff and with less cushion. In fact some very high-end manufacturers don't offer 1.0 bu.

Really your best option is to decide your budget and then talk with your supplier. If you have a good supplier that you trust, they can help you get the best set for your needs and budget. It's not so simple as just looking for the cheapest 3mm set on the net - there's a reason they have different prices.

Make sure that your do is unproportionately small compared to the other sizings. A small do worn excessively high on the torso is a more difficult target than a big fat do hanging low.
