    the 'zone'

Forgive me in advance if someone else has already asked this...but last Friday (Finally my first class!) before class I got a little nervous. Im not a very confident person, and starting kendo seemed like it would be a very difficult/embarassing experience, what with all the yelling and all. However, it seemed that I could concentrate easier somehow in the dojo. I Kiai'ed without a hitch (for the most part...I couldnt yell long enough to get from one wall to the other and back again without taking a breath 2 out of 3 times =((( ). Somehow it just seems easier to focus on technique and less on self-conciousness. Is this unique to me or does everyone share something of a simmilar experience?

Forgive the jargon if its unreadable...I've been working non-stop for the past week =(.

But because man is pluckless(?), he cannot set his mind to it. Moving Heaven and Earth without putting forth effort is simply a matter of concentration." Yamamoto Tsunetomo, Hagakure

Don't worry, it's always hard when you just started. When I started, my footwork was wrong, my kiai was wrong, my hits where wrong, my legs weren't strong enough, but month after month it just kept improving.
Don't worry about doing everything wrong, just work and it'll come.
