None of these stores are based in Australia

To answer the OP's original question
Unfortunately, there are no bricks and mortar stores in NSW .

Sankei kendo and Online kendo do have Australian distributors (both in Melbourne). However they source their equipment from overseas (Japan and China)

If you can stop by Canberra there is a martial arts store called Planet Max which stocks kendo equipment. The range of shinai stock is not huge, just a few Chinese(?) size 39 shinai, but they seem to be pretty good quality and they can probably order other items.

A quick search shows these places:

    http://martialartsworld.com.au

    Gladesville.

    http://www.shogunmartialarts.com.au/...category_id=37

    South Penrith.

I'd say these shinai would be cheap generic practise shinai.
if you don't buy online then cheap shinai are probably your only option.

I'd try and avoid these stores for shinai. The ones I've seen weren't up to standard and they weren't that cheap either.

Generally in Aus if you buy shinais off the shelf youll pay a bit more, and the shinais have probably been sitting there for some time - you dont know if they have dried out badly. Still, if you are desperate for a spare before a tournament, it can be handy to know where to get one in a hurry!

I forgot to add to the OP: if you are female - if you want 38s, I wouldnt recommend getting the cheapest ones ebogu sell, Ive been buying them for the last 2 years and 50% of them will shatter a slat in the first training, not splinter - completely disintergrate. They last a rediculously short amount of time compared to the same quality 39s, so I assume it has something to do with longer storage times at the manufacturers. My last one didnt survive a 10 minute warmup. Needless to say, Im going back to using 39s or switching to a different supplier.
