    Bogu backpacks

    Hello everyone,

Since I go to my dojo by bike, the shoulder bag that came with my bogu is a bit of a hassle so I would like a backpack style bogu bag. As silly as this may seem, I just can't seem to find them, other then this one:

    http://www.e-kendo.com/us/CART/12010....html?PDid=201

Now, if there really are no alternatives, I will go for that bag, as I really need/want a backpack style one. But I would like to know if there are other options first.

But I liked that one from e-kendo more! I'd get it myself if I could.

That one from e-kendo looks like just a regular old travel backpack. MEC carries a few flavours of those. If you've got a big budget, you could look at Bujin. Click on the picture to see the backpack straps.

A friend of mine is a seamstress, and I got her to sew regular backpack straps onto my normal bogu bag. It works really well, mind you I only use it to ride to the dojo that is about 4km away. When I am going to the other one I take the bus, or leave my bogu there, as my back gets a little bit sore. But I'd say that is more due to the weight than the design of the bag.

Anyway, that is probably a cheaper option if you know someone who can sew.

This is what I use. It only has a shoulder strap, but I wear it across my chest while the bag rests on the flat rack on the back of my bike. It's worked fairly well so far and hasn't given me any sore shoulders.

Basically any backpack big enough works. You really don't need a specially made bogu backpack. If you see a big backpack in a store and you like it, bring your do to the store and see if it fits. I've heard many kendoka do it (I did it too).

Like you, I needed a bag I could carry on my back because I need to use my bike to get to the railway station. I bought myself a large base camp duffel from The North Face. The thing is huge. It's rather expensive, but worth the money. It's water prove (this also means that you need to get your bogu out as soon as you get home) en nearly indestructible.

Now why didn't I think of that. I feel so stupid right now! But wouldn't you need to bring your entire bogu? I mean, the men takes up a lot of space as well. Although I do suppose that if the do fits, you can easily guestimate if the rest will fit in.

WHOOPS.. Kereo, I'm sorry. I accidentally edited your post instead of replying to it and lost some of the original contents. 20 lashes with a wet noodle, bad moderator.

I've seen people at my dojang use suitcases, as well. I guess the rollers make it lighter to carry? I dunno. I just use the shoulder bag, when I travel with the bogu.

I bought the one from Bujin design a couple of years ago and, while it is pretty expensive, I found it to be very versatile and the many compartments that allow me to carry my gi, hakama, bogu, tenegui and other random accessories that I have collected over the years.

kendo 24 has one as well:

    http://www.kendo24.com/en/zubehoer/ruestungen.html (switch to english ^^)

but as Mr. T has suggested, get yourself a regular backpack that is made to carry heavier loads (thicker straps, better weight distribution). I used to bike to the dojo as well (I drive now) and a bogu is just too heavy to not hurt your back. And if you have a tired back and then you still go through a long, hard kendo practice,... well take it from someone who has had plenty of back problems, it's not worth the risk.

Also, it helps if you have an "Opa" bike, because you can make the straps a bit longer and let the bogu bag rest on the luggage frame bit above the back wheel. that way the weight is on the bike and not on your back.

    Good luck!
Up with this I will not put!

As I wrote before, the thing is huge. It also helps if you know how to pack. I've got lots of spare room. I bet that, if needed, I could fit 2 full bogu sets in it. Never tried it, but I really think I can.

You can also buy a car, it makes getting your bogu to the dojo a lot easier

The kote goes inside the men, the men goes inside the doh. If the doh fits, it all fits.

Dude, you should get a "bakfiets", you could fit 6 bogu in your bak.

If you want a backpack look at dakine backpacks, big straps nice and sturdy materials but they can be rather expensive. I use them for my snowboard and snowboard gear.

I go tii kendo by car and have recently purchased a big sporting bag with wheels, at first I nearly couldn't get anything in there when my bogu was packed but I keep finding better ways to pack everything. I can now fit my complete bogu, two hakama, two gi, shoes, waterbottles and still have room too spare.

Can't you get a normal sporting bag and put it on your luggage rack, you could fasten it with a "spider" (spin).

Or you could just wear your do and only pack your men and stuff

Maby you could try an outdoor supply store.
