    Japanology - What is Kendo ?

    Surfing around the web I found this documentary.
    It's been a while since I didn't see a nice true Kendo documentary and this one is quite new.. (At least for me..)

    Btw, was that just a mistake in the narration, or have I been ignorantly laboring under a misconception that only the forward (right in chudan, left in jodan) kote is a valid target?

    [Edit: the video is great, but the narrator's shirt is so awful it's actually distracting! ]

    Both kote are valid targets when opponent assumes any kamae with the hands above the mune.

    Please correct me if I'm wrong but the last ippon kote looks like scored whit the opponent in Chudan.

    As a matter of fact, I learned both kote are valid targets when the kamae is not chudan-kamae, and also if the adversary uses, for some reason, hidari-chudan-kamae, then the left kote is also a valid target.
