    More Youtube Kendo Instruction

Although the maker of this one does appear to have some kendo experience and is of some small repute. It is in Japanese and to my knowledge hasn't been translated. I'm just posting a link to one of a number of videos. Enjoy!

ps - if these have been posted before and I have just missed them, feel free to delete the thread. Thanks.

Of course that's Chiba sensei. The thread title is a little misleading, sure, but the sarcasm in the post (and the italics to point it out) was hopefully evident for people to get that these videos could be helpful. I'm not sure what the term is for the literary device I used to get my point across, but my grammar's never been top notch anyway. Essentially, I had never seen the videos before and apparently this person has only had them online for a month or so, so I thought I'd share.

In any event, no one needs me to vouch for Chiba sensei's abilities; just watch his kendo... and then watch it again and again and again!

I don't know how it looks on your screen but the italics weren't obvious. I didn't notice them until you pointed this out. Thanks for the link though and wow that guy has a lot of Chiba sensei vids there.

I got the sarcasm. The literary device is understatement, btw.

You can buy the book and DVD set it's called kendo perfect master! Bit of a cheesey name but it is fantastic. I was lucky enough to get Chiba sensei to sign my copy at the Brighton seminar this year.

Wow! You can REALLY see Chiba Sensei LOVES teaching!

I have been seeing a lot of Hidari Jodan No Kamae lately.
There were 5 people last week at one dojo. They all came 1 hour before the regular practice just for men/ kote/ do uchi! Later, it was beautiful watching 8th Dan Sensei training them with HIS CHUDAN & small variations! They had to attack "men", as sensei met their attack with non attacking tsuki... Each time they had to come back with better posture & even more heart before sensei would allow the strike...

The students in Chiba Sensei's video are blessed!!!

Anyone else agree that in the video posted he pulls up his shinai too much allowing an opening for his kote? Its basically vertical. We've been taught to minimize this as much as possible as a your opponent will notice it the second time and and if hes quick enough he'll pick off your kote easily.

Ah, the internet. Where the ikkyu casually criticises the form of the hanshi.

Are you saying you think you (or anyone you know for that matter) could easily score ippon on Chiba sensei, and that his form is bad? Because... you do know who he is, right?

(As a side note, I have been taught to strike in a similar way to in the video, with the shinai almost vertical. To slide the shinai forwards and tap is, according to my sensei, "how children hit - adults need to strike properly." Of course if you lift your arms up too much or don't apply seme you will be hit. This doesn't make this method of striking wrong.)

More on topic, I have this book and DVD, and they're excellent. I strongly recommend that people buy a copy.

yeah you try and hit his kote....

he's the one who taught the person who taught the person who taught you, you obviously have NO idea who he is...

do your homework before you blindly correct a hachidan hanshi.
