    Kendo glasses

I was wondering if anyone had tried this style of Kendo glasses with a strap: http://www.e-bogu.com/Kendo_Glasses_p/ank-ken-glss.htm and/or if anyone knew how it compared to the clip-into-the-men style of glasses: http://www.mengan.com/

I have both. I find the former usable if there is an extended practice session doing kata or other stuff without the men and then need to put the men on in a hurry. The main problem I have with these glasses is the result of a collision on my men. If somewhat hits me sideways on the men or while I'm turning, I may end up with the glasses off my face or with one lens in front of my eyes and the other off to the side. I need to stop and get the glasses back in position. A major pain and deadly if I am in a shiai. The clip on glasses are great to practice with but I need to move off to the sides and take my other glasses off first and store them somewhere that is safe from having them stepped on.

Both are more comfortable than wearing normal glasses under the men and share the same issues as glasses: you will get them fogged up on occasion and condensation from your sweat will be a major pain... If you can do it, wear contacts...

    YMMV

I use titan flex frame glasses and have no problems at all with them. I push them up on my nose when I put on the men and after that the men keeps them in place.

I use contact lenses and you'd honestly be daft to do otherwise. Don't say you can't get used to them, yes you can - nobody likes them at first, you just have to exercise some willpower and seize the advantage.

Not to mention the handy bonus of how much better it is to go out on the pull without the third and fourth eyes screwing up your chances .

    Summary: Get contacts, no excuses.

I was an "anti-contacts" person for the longest time as well. But, after I got my bogu, I tried to wear my glasses with the men and immediately noticed it wasn't going to work. So I took the men off, and placed my glasses somewhere safe. However, my eyesight is pretty bad, and the distance of "issotuko no mai" (spelling?) was already far enough to see everything blurry. Once I got contacts a month later, it was like a whole new world. I could actually SEE what I was trying to hit. I still wear my glasses quite often, but really, for kendo contacts are awesome!

Thanks for the replies, everyone - I'm going to the optometrist next week to get contacts ;-)

There are people who can't wear them for medical reasons. Both sorts of kendo specialty glasses work fine.

You can get goggles for that sort of thing. I know a guy who used to wear them for football and it worked well enough for him.

Until now it works quite well. They get fogged up only if you stay firm some time, if you move the ventilation holes remove the "fog" (or reduced it a lot)

"Get contacts; no excuses except for those with stigmatism" doesn't have the same ring to it.

Stout fella Inkleaf, good luck. It's really refreshing to have perfect vision without metal on your face.

I'm on the flip side of this: I've been wearing my glasses inside my Men for some time and I've never had a problem. No sports glasses for me (I had problems with them back in my basketball days), and contact lenses have never been my style, though I am thinking about them.

Astigmatism, dry eyes, high intraocular pressure, glaucoma risk... there are lots of valid reasons for people to not get contacts.

I was looking into the mengane glasses, but then found that 80% of my problems could be solved by adjusting where the men himo go and being careful not to dislodge my glasses when I put the men on. Now the remaining 20% of my problems are caused by my cochlear implant processor "floating" above or below my ear as I get hit.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I was wondering if anyone's tried these? If so, what do you think of them?

I once saw a special customizing option for the men that has on the sides some space left for glasses, in this "ring" around the face on the hight of the ears.
But I forgot witch online-shop has them ... sorry. Maybe the one that sells the "Mine-Bogu"?
If someone found it again, this might be an option for people who can't wear lenses.

    Edit: Found it:
    http://www.chibabogu.com/catalog/inf...o_id=8#options
but I don't know if it really works ...
