Cool, 8 grand? ( Australian Dollars I am guessing) that will buy you pretty much every option available, including a Same Do, a Senkou Do mune and a genuine kodaimousen futon... Actually, in the meantime, our hand-stitched Bogu starts from around 950 Australian Dollars, it's not Same or even kodaimousen, but it is still a great quality Bogu

    Hi Andy,

Love the new site, some great stuff on there. I have a shopping list already.

Just a quick question for you or anyone else who fancies helping on this one. Which set is better for a novice? The Miyamoto 3.0 Bu hand stitched set or the Munisai Innovative machine stiched set? Both are around the same price. What are the pros and cons in terms of durability, life extpectancy of the bogu and comfort?

    Thanks.

3 bu is a pretty wide hand stich, it wont be very stiff. additionally the different stiching pattern will also make the munisai less stiff than standard 3mm. If those 2 sets were your only option I would take the 3.0 bu handstiched. It has a nicer tare (do is the same between the 2) and a nicer men. The kote also are nicer by my standards, but then again i dislike the micropunch palms (personal preference) As for which is better for a novice my answer would be you could likely find a set cheaper than both, which would be adequate, and would give you a better idea of what you may like or dislike about certain bogu features. While both of those stitch patterns make the futon softer and thicker, you may find you prefer the extra protection that a stiffer set (tighter spacing) provides. You could also consult your sensei as they would probably have a better idea about what features you might lean towards and make better recommendations than someone who has never met you on the internet.

    Hi Jamie,

I am glad you like the site!

Both the Munisai and the Miyamoto sets are ideal for Kendoka of all levels. I have personally tried them both and I think they are both great sets. If anything I would say that the Miyamoto set is slightly more sturdy in terms of construction - as you would expect from Hand stitched bogu, though it is not a massive difference. However, Munisai is a tad lighter and easier to care for (having the I-Leather features and Tech-knit uchiwa), but again it is not massively noticable.

Obviously the main difference is the design of the bogu, so it depends on which you prefer in that respect... Also if you want to choose the colour of the dou, then that option is only available with Munisai.

Anyway, feel free to email me on andy@kendo-bogu.com if you have any other questions,

    Andy

Sorry Andy, but saw one DVD listed. Are there more (in particular for Jodan and Nito) and where. Thanks from computer illiterate T-S!
