What happened? What did he do?

Of course there is a line there somewhere,
since most of us are not samurais who live by our swords; we have our own lives outside the dojo.
But there still are plenty of good things to be said.
I remember my sensei telling us after the practice,
"When you practice Kendo, you have to be always thinking how you can improve yourself.
If you follow this in Kendo, you will be improve much more quickly,
and if you follow this in your life, you will live a very good life."
How can anyone not appreciate words like this?
This is what lead me to kendo.
If I must die to live, then that is acceptable.

I personally like this, this does exist in our DOJO. For me having started in Tae Kwon Do which our particular Dojang was NOT focused on tournaments, we trained hard and alot of the kids and adults left because they felt they should be "training" for something. I think alot of people simply make the "choice" of training for sport and not training for its total embodiment. Later for me joining the military and stayed in for eleven years, I left and finally found KENDO, much later in life than some Kenshi, but I'm glad with the path I'm on. Preaching in anyway, dosen't bother me, for me I have two ears, two eyes, and one mouth. My grandparents told me that you have ONE mouth because you "should" use it less. I see alot of simularities of KENDO from my life and of my life. I believe KENDO to must be balanced, I'm certain many Kenshi and high ranking Sensei will agree KENDO is NOT a sport. It is BUDO, it is at least for me a way of life. I think people should really give that process some serious contemplation before studing KENDO/IAIDO/SHINKENDO. For me it adds everything to KENDO, it is very necessary. I would dare to say all of our dojo, looks forward to our Sensei's "long winded" speeches as they have come to be known as. But without them a grand element would either be missing or nonexistant. " If there is no spark, there will be no fire, the spark must exist."
