    Grading Requirements Iaido

The BKA website has a good outline of grading requirements for Kendo (See http://kendo.org.uk/kendo/grading-requirements/) but does not seem to list a similar article for Iai students. Is there a comparable document available elswhere? I'm also interested in what forum members think are their requirements or how their thinking has changed as they have progressed.

There are a few links on the AUSKF site. I've used what they have there to make a "continuing" study guide. I Image the CKF has similar guides?

    Hi, guys,

This is exactly the very same question I was about to ask.
The local Kendo/Iai association I belong to has been assigned with updating the Iai handbook & competition manuals used by the Mexican Kendo Federation (FMK) with any recent changes applied since the 3rd Edition (of 2001, not the 2006 revised edition).

One of the biggest issues we've had in Mexico for Iaido is that there are no clear rules for Ikkyu and Shodan/Nidan gradings (Nikyu and below are entirely to each association's criteria). Some sensei & their associations are requesting 1 o 2 Seitei kata with no time limit for Shodan, while others are requesting all 12 kata in 7 minutes for Ikkyu. Currently, there is no federation-wide criteria for testing to these grades, and there's a hot debate on what should be the criteria. Since my association has been assigned with the task of updating the manuals, this is one of the big issues for completing the task.

Is there a FIK standard or guideline for grading? I know that the Iai manual has a set of points to be taken into consideration while evaluating the execution, and also I've read the links you guys provided above, which are helpful. But I'm also looking for some reference as to how many kata and which kata are required for each grade, and if there's any time limit, depending again on the grade being tested for.

Thanks a lot for your help.
