Newbie needs to tie the himo, any videos out there?

    Hello everyone,
I have a new shinai that my sensei sold me but I also have an old beat up shinai someone gave me to use for practicing at work (and as a beater)...
The himo is very loose and I would love to find a tutorial on tying it (or tightening it..)

(thats not a 3rd eye, it's a shinai mark on my forehead)

sorry yoda-waza, that's a really dumb move on my part. Would the administrator change that if I asked him?

Looks like Yoda-Waza-San has taken you under his wing. lucky you. Actually, himo is sometimes translated as "string," but anyway for a shinai, it's a "tsuru" as it is thinner than the "himo" used to tie on the helmet and chest protector. Equally exciting is that "tsuru" when written in the English alphabet can also mean "crane" - hence the (OT, sorry) saying, "Tsuru sen nen, kame man nen" meaning that cranes have a long life but not as long as a turtle or tortoise (both New Year's auspicious symbols for folks to make it through another year).
