I like how they have some sort of 'HARD' gangsta rap in the background, but all I can hear is the song that the circuses would play when they brought out the elephants.

The audio sound track should have been a glaring clue to the visual content to follow. Both were painful to experience. I am ashamed I wasted 1:47 minutes of my life.

At least, unlike some other YouTube videos, they didn't have steel swords.

Kids are going to goof around in violent ways from time to time. Take a deep breath, relax, and let it go.

Ok, where is that thread with the whole incident about the sensei who was killed when a broken stave went through his eye during a match?? Anyone know where it is, on here? I don't known what search words to use and I REALLY need it. I am in the middle of writing this guy about safety if he's going to screw around like this. I felt that at least someone ought to send him something on it, just in case he may listen. You never know. I normally wouldn't bother, but this is the worst shinai fighting display I've ever seen. It's only a matter of time that one of them gets injured badly due to a broken shinai. Maybe it won't matter what I say, but if I can make him think twice, I'll be happy.

I am going to save my message to him until I get this info.

    Thanks for any help, guys!

And yeah, the "music" IS awful... Ouch, my ears!!

    Why bother?

Anybody who fails to understand the dangers of swinging something at another human being is unlikely to respond well to any message you might send. I mean it is nice and all that you have some compassion for them, but it isn't likely to have any effect whatsoever. If that vid bothers you, for the love of god don't look up "free running". People do stupid things all the time, whether it is whatever the hell you want to call the content of that video, riding bicycles without helmets and elbow pads, or eating fast food. Do they all require a personalized message?

It might. You never know unless you try(politely of course.). I've talked a couple people here several years ago into knocking their crap off before. That was before the whole newbie rule when we had a LOT of wannabes on here. I'm actually GLAD we don't get a huge amount like that anymore. (Though some I know are kind of disappointed, lol!) But, you do have a point. I'd rather try in this case though. They are actually aiming for the head at full force, which is bad.

Ahahaha, that made me laugh! Do you mean parquer(sp.?), that French invention? If so, I have seen that, and it is amazing. Dangerous though. Wish I could fly around like that on my feet. There was something on TV about it some time ago, and they said that people train for it and recommend that people not try it otherwise. Ha, like kids will listen after seeing it!

No. But why not, in some cases? Btw, I like how you put it, about whatever is in that video. That was funny. Well, it sure isn't kendo...

Fair enough, you seem like a decent sort so just be prepared for a less than polite response if you do try to say something to these fellows.

Thank you. I will be. I just now need to find that thread I read that tells about that sensei... And, no idea what words to use to search for it. *sigh* Any ideas? A real example is something I need for backup.

If you're looking for an apocryphal horror story, this should do http://www.alliancemartialarts.com/safety.html

Mistakes can happen even with qualified instructors, these pursuits are inherently dangerous.

I should know better than to try to use impressive sounding words under the influence of benadryl - I always end up realizing after the edit window expires that I made a goof. There's no reason to doubt any of the stories contained on the linked page. Apologies.

Hey, I don't need to take a deep breath because I'm not angry. I thought it was hilarious.

No problem. Thanks for the link. it may be useful. But, what I am REALLY looking for, is info on that one high level kendo sensei who died due to part of the opponent's shinai going through his eye when the opponent's shinai accidentally broke during their match at a tournament. I want these kids to know that shinai can break, and when they do, it can be very dangerous and sometimes, deadly. As it is, they are only getting large bruises, with the possibility of a broken wrist which is bad of course, but the head, well, that's a different story. You don't know what damage you can do with a shinai even by hitting the bare head without it going through an eye, due to the speed they are attacking at. I have been hit on the bare head once with a shinai long ago in a "kumdo" dojang I used to be in, but it was an accident, and that was not at full speed. It still hurt a little but not enough for me to complain about it. I never want to feel full speed on my bare head though!

    Thanks again!

I believe the gruesome story you're after is here http://www.kendo-world.com/forum/sho...in-kendo/page2

I don't know how the example of a trained guy getting killed in a freak accident will be much help "Hey those guys knew what they were doing and still got hurt, so training isn't going to make any difference now lets get back to swordfight, hi-ya lol"

I took a bokken to the right eyebrow during a mutodori exercise with a student about a month ago who apparently didn't understand that it was not yet time to go in full bore. Fortunately all I've got from that is a minor bump, could have been a hell of a lot worse. You're right. You never want to feel full speed on the head. That wasn't even slightly awesome.

Yeah. That's the one! Thank you VERY much!!

Well, I don't know either, but I am certainly going to do my best to convince them. If I can, then great! If I can't, well, at least I will have tried my best, and then hope they don't kill each other.

Ouch!! Bokuto have NO give, so that's no fun! What is Mutodori? What do you practice if I may ask(Never heard that term used anywhere before.)? You don't mean motodachi do you? And, what do you mean, "full bore." (You can guess my next question, right? Sorry... Can't help it!)
