Thread: Nail-Polish During Kendo Practice?

    Nail-Polish During Kendo Practice?

Over the long-weekend my friends painted my nails a really pretty colour, and I don't want to take it off. So my question is can I wear nail polish during practice? Like, can I wear not so flashy colours, does it matter what colour I wear, or is it not allowed?

    Thanks in advance!

I think that's mainly a sensei thing. I have a feeling my instructors wouldn't particularly care, especially if you're wearing kote over it, best bet is to ask yours

Seriously?? While I generally agree with the "ask your sensei" advice, it's just stupid to require your sensei's input on every little thing. I'm sure he or she wouldn't care about matters involving makeup/nail colors and would probably think you need to develop a more "use your own best judgement" mentality if you questioned them. This kind of attitude is why we have caution labels on halloween capes and the government thinks they need to regulate every aspect of our lives. Even if you want to wear flashy nail polish, this isn't jewelry, it poses no danger to anyone else, so just decide for yourself. Personally speaking, I don't think I'd appreciate a sensei who felt they had a right to tell me what kind of nail polish I should be wearing, if I were the kind to wear nail polish.

One of my woman sensei used to wear red pedicure, her answer is you should not pay attention to her toe during practice, she is 7 dan.

I want going to leave this alone since I don't usually post, but I asked myself the same question. I've seen nail polish on hands but I personally had red polish on my toes and somehow managed to get a streak of red on my dojo's hardwood floors. It's still there 2 weeks later and everytime I go I try to scrape it off with no avail. I think it ended up like that from me getting up from seiza. Either way, I will never do it again, unless it's a clear polish or sealed with many many layers of clear.
