What Neil said is so true, I know of several high ranking kendoka that read the forums but do not post. But the reason to be respectful is not because someone of high rank, or someone that you know personally is reading your posts. You should be respectful of everyone at all times (you as in all of us, not just MAG).

I think I understand what MAG is talking about. We speak differently to people we are more familiar with. For example, I speak with my close friends in a very informal and familiar manner. Though, If my Mom or Dad were listening to my conversation with them and I knew they were listening, I would definitely speak more respectfully, not because I was being disrespectful to my friends, but b/c I am being respectful towards my parents.

    If that makes any sense.

No it doesn't make sense, because here...well you probably _don't_ know most of the people who are reading your posts personally. You _may_ know most of the people who respond to it in the internet sense of the work know.. you may even have met _some_ of the people who respond to your posts (I have and I treasure finally being able to put faces to avatars I've not met).

For me I chose a user name that makes it very clear to people who know me, or even know of me who I am.
