I believe it's for matches for high rank Sensei to showcase Kendo. Kamata Sensei is one of Canada's only Hachidan, and he's listed as Men's Special. I got to practice with Raymond Sensei (who's also attending) the other week, and he said something to this effect.

Yes, each country was to send sensei of at least 6 dan to compete in that category. We don't have any women ranked that high in Canada so the ladies' rep is Wendy Robillard, many years captain of our women's team and also coach in 2006.

Yes.

I'm here with the FIK, but Kendo World staff will also be here to film the events. I went to see jujutsu yesterday. That was awesome. I'd never seen competitoon jujutsu before, so it was quite a surprise.

Can't seem to get Twitter in China... YouTube is out of the question...

FIK President Takeyasu arrives in Beijing. Also, many of the kendo competitors have started to arrive. Just bumped into Teramoto. Uchimura and Wako just got off the plane

We are setting up the court area now. The tournament will start at 14:00 Beijing time. All the competitors are geared up for what is going to be quite an exciting competition. Mike Komoto and Bryan Peterson arrived last night to cover the event for KW. I might set up another article on KW's front page. So keep an eye on that.
