Does this look like mold on my shinai?

I've been storing this spare shinai in my wardrobe and when I took it out recently I noticed these green bits on the leathery parts. I took some pics which you can see here:

    Is it mold?

Is it moisty in that room?
When the archer does not think about the target. he may unfold the art of archery.
When the kendoka does not think about the datotsu-bu he may unfold the art of kendo.
Kendo is like fencing but not stupid!

Rub some alcohol on it or spray it with something like Dettol, just in case. Doesn't look like mold to me, but why not be sure.

Looks like a soiling to me, maybe something from the plastic that it was stored in?

Dunno...spots on the sakigawa look kinda green to me. If alcohol doesn't take it off, another trick would be a dab of vinegar with the idea that that lowering the pH would take the mold out of its comfort zone.

the whole thing is going to turn blue anyways, not the end of the world ... just use it!
although if it's been stored for that long, make sure you oil it well otherwise it may easily shatter and fly into people's eyes

Out of curiosity, why is it that you are not using that shinai?
It does look like mould, easy to get off as others have explained.

some of my shinai that were put away for a while all develope this blue moldy thing, does not affect anything other than look. If you are to use this shinai again, hit on some dead object or use it for receiving and check for damage before using it on someone, cause I have unused shinai pulled out of storage that cracked very quickly.
