Be Sumi Sensei (only for a while)

A small camera is put on the sensei's men.
For a while we can see from his eyes perspective his wonderful movements:

The screaming still startles me a little bit, not gonna lie. This is pretty awesome though.

what happens at 0.37? I just see a mess of kote and shinai and suddenly one is disarmed. And what confuses me most is that he seems to hold the other's shinai and not grab it from the floor. very impressing waza

Looks to me like Yamazaki's shinai got tangled up in Sumi-sensei's kote or his tsuka or something; he just reaches over and pulls it off.

I loved it when he disarmed the person closer to the end. The thing was the way of how simple he made that disarming look.

I found it interesting to watch his kenzen. More often than not the other person seemed to lose as they did not take center while attacking or were prevented from doing so, while Sumi-sensei only seems to strike while having it by "extending" forwards. Sumi-sensei never pulls the shinai back towards the body and still controls the center even when attacking slowly.

I also like how he forced people offline during simultaneous hits.
I remember some guy asking Liang Baiping what the philosphy of Taiji was. Baiping looked at him and said, "The philosophy of Taiji is to crash through to their center and kill them".

I have studied Kendo at Nenriki Dojo in London, UK since November 2005. I am currently Nidan. After reading many blogs from around the world I thought it would be a good idea to set up one of my own so I can track my progress.
