i have decided to start kendo again
but i will only be training once a week due to evening school restrictions

therefore would this 6mm set be adequate or do you guys still recommend getting something a wee bit better
unfortunately chidokans posh set is smelly and too big

Perhaps you can consider this http://www.kendo-bogu.com/product_p/set-tbc.htm
That's something I'll go for, if around that price.

Some guy wrote a review of that particular set.

You probably won't find a cheaper bogu, so if you're not asking for too much, by all means...

A cheap set will be OK so long as you're pretty much the same shape as a guy. I've noticed however that some of our female members who are a bit more... womanly, tend to have trouble with cheaper sets, particularly the height of the do mune (too high). This can make the men uncomfortable because the ago is pushed up by the do mune. Chiba bogu have some interesting FAQs on women's bogu, but unfortunately they don't offer any inexpensive bogu. Perhaps try Miyako Budogu and email Andy with some questions. b

    Hi guys
thanks for the tips every one
I am concerned about the do fit then with sticky out ribs and er such
the one on 9 circles is ceaper than the kendo-bogu one at current transfer rates.
the option of upgrading the kote may help too.
hmmn. how much discount is there when buying on the club account?

I don't think Andy gives any further club discount on items that are already on sale. Or at least, that particular set doesn't show up as discounted when I log in. But really you are choosing between a couple of cheap 6 mm sets, they are likely to both do the job but not particularly well. You're going to have to pony up more cash to get fussy.

    Thanks for testing it Neil
To be honest i am going for cheap and chearful
but maybe with better kote and then upgrade bits when they die.
though maybe the 4mm set will be better for the wee bit more?
    but a plastic doh?
and will it fit round my lady-like bits, now i am worried
looked on eurobogu and they are so expensive on there
plus i dont want a white one

for the sake of once a weeks practice i think cheap is ok

Stock dohs don't seem to fit women well in general. I think we have a whole thread about that somewhere. Why don't you just ask your suppliers? Andy's certainly willing to answer questions and by all accounts NineCircles is responsive as well.

    A similar solution - 5mm for ~40 euro more.

The supplier's quite open to customization, so you will most likely be able to upgrade the kote, and other parts as well, if needed.

Sorry for the late entry to this thread!

Basically if you have questions about the Bogu, particularly with things like the Do etc. Just pop me an email (andy@kendo-bogu.com).

Obvioulsy I am not going to comment about the other supplier's products on a public forum, but what I would say is that NONE of the Bogu on Miyako Kendo is below my personal quality standards, I.e. I would e prepared to use it myself for Keiko.

As for club discout, basically as Neil says, as the Bogu is on sale I can't discount it further on an individual basis, but if your club wanted to place a bulk order of several items I could potentially negotiate a further discount for you.

It's great to hear you are coming back to Kendo!

Hi andy, thanks for the input, i was due to pm you

Yeah, basically my concern is about the fit of the do, but then unless i go custom built or female kit i guess i will get that problem everywhere
i will not be buying until next month at the earliest.

i have been spoilt with preston and darlington which are both high level clubs
so i need to see what this one is like first, and if my shoulder can hack it

are you able to do the upgrading of the kote?
    what mm would you recomened?
i am a pussy and will probably wear a kiddies shinpad anyways

    cheers
