    Cheap Training Dummy Ideas

I was wounding, does anyone have any ideas to make a cheap training dummy, or any ideas on something to use (that wont beat up my shinai?) I have seen a lot of different ideas on the web, but a lot of them still take a lot of stuff to make.
    Thanks

The cheapest idea I can come up with on the spur of the moment is to lash a tire to a tree at men height.

Get a long piece of wood, either nail an old tire or wrap it in thick padding, stick it in the ground, and whack it with fury.

Does anyone have any idea about how to make a moving target of some kind? If you did the tire from the tree that would move around I'm sure but you would only be able to hit the right and left men right?

Why would you want a moving target? During keiko your opponent is, more or less, in front of you and won't be ducking and weaving like a boxer would. You could make the argument that during tournaments some people will contort their bodies in all sorts of weird positions for the sake of not getting hit while attacking but, personally, I'd loose cleanly than win by twisting myself into some kind of human pretzel.

I guess I'm thinking more of the line of getting use to another moving shinai. I know some of the things I need to work on (such as following then movement of an opponent). I know that there is a limit to how much you can train on your own, I guess I'm just trying to find out where that limit is.

not sure I follow what you mean by a moving shinai, or following an opponent...

Like when you're going to do Keiko (depending on the type) with someone I'm learning that they don't just hold their shinai completely still. As for the following opponent part that would be when they move one way and your suppose to follow them keeping the same distance. I hope that made things a little clearer.

in both cases I think you would be encouraging bad habits. stationary target would be better.

Like others have said, there's no need for you to be chasing a moving target. If the opponent is moving his shinai away from center, then he's giving you an opportunity for you to take control of center and gain the advantage. You should just focus on being able to execute a good men and hit the target you're aiming at and with correct kikentaiichi. By the time you can do that, it won't matter whether he's moving around like a little bee or standing still.
