That was a big gash. Might have severed a digital tendon, and hopefully no nerves. The blood looks venous though, so that might be good since the most accessible tendons kinda collect around the arteries, for some reason. It does not need to go very deep to hit either of those things. Bending his arm like that and raising it could pull any severed tendons further up into the arm as well. The surgery is expensive too, and recovering from that is difficult. A potential life changing problem in a single foolish moment.
