2. Huifang YANG (CHN) versus Yukiko TAKAMI (JPN)
Takami scores kote. Takami scores men, to win the match quickly for the West.
3. Mirial LIVOLSI ( I TA ) versus Saeko TEW (USA).
Very quick match. Can’t keep up at the moment! Livolsi scores do then kote to win for the East Team.
4. Yang WANG (CHN) versus Blake Charles BENNET (NZL)
Bennett needs to make up for yesterday. Bennett scores a nice kote. Time up. Bennett wins for the West Team.
5. Igor GONI MENDIZABAL (ESP) versus Meng-Hsuan WU (TPE)
Vigorous match. WU takes it for the East with 2 nice men.
6. Lunwei ZHANG (CHN) versus Emesto Eisaku ONAKA (BRA)
Zhang comes out with Nito.Onaka scores first men point. Another great men to Onaka takes the match for the West.
7. Wesley HAEKE (BEL) versus Ryoichi UCHIMURA (JPN)
Do strike to Uchimura. Haeke doing well. Another beautiful kaeshi-do by Uchimura for the match. West again.
8. Min GU (CHN) versus Christopher E J Yang (USA)
Yang scores men straight off the mark. Nice kote to Yang to take the match for the West.
9. Herve BLANCHARD (FRA) versus Suguru ASAOKA (CAN)
Close match so far. Ends in a draw.
10. Ting YU (CHN) versus Brett Daniel SMITH (AUS)
Yu is the president of the Chinese Kendo Federation president. He is really tired through all of his hard work for the event. Smith scores the first kote. Smith gets another kote to win the match for the West.
11. Jung Kuk KIM (KOR) versus Shoji TERAMOTO (JPN)
Reigning world champion Teramoto against another Korean powerhouse. Bit of a stalemate for the first half. Whistle blows. Draw.
12. Ralph LEHMANN (GER) versus Leonsimo J MAYA MARTINEZ (MEX)
Big age jump now as the senior players take the court. Nothing decisive in the first half. Maya scores a nice men but gets knocked in his backside! Crowd goes wild. Match finishes with a win for the West.
13. Hak Jin PARK (KOR) versus Shinji FUNATSU (JPN)
Men in first second for Park. Funatsu is reigning 8-dan champ in Japan. Funatsu scores with men. Park pissed off and whacks him lightly in the head. Funatsu drops his shinai.Hansoku. Match ends in a draw.
14. Jae Wha DO (KOR) versus Yoshiteru TAGAWA (USA)
Match ends in a draw.
15. Kenichi YOSHIMURA (FRA) versus Shigetaka KAMATA (CAN)
Last match. Kamata scores a men strike near the end of time. That wins the match.
WEST beats EAST 9-1.

Furukawa scores great de-gote in the first minute. Almost trademark tsuki by Furukawa... Do steps out of bounds. Time up. Furukawa wins.

S. Kamata (CAN) versus T. Wu (TPE).
Wu scores the first men, but is knocked on his backside. Then follows up with an awesome kote to win the match. Next round is the semifinals.

Great, a rematch from the East versus West that ended in a draw...
Match starts. Both look like they mean business...

Park knocks Funatsu's shinai out of his hands. Hansoku.
The match is very tense. Couple fo close calls for both sides. At this stage Park seems to have the upper hand.

Furukawa scores do!! He wins the 8-dan competition.
That wraps up the competition events. Now we have the awards ceremony and a few demonstartions of kid's kendo, godo-geiko etc. It has been a great expereince being here. I hope they do this again. Nothing is set in concrete at this stage, but I think the Sportaccord Combat Games are generally regarded as being a success. KW will have videos and more detailed reports in the near future. Hope you enjoyed the coverage.
