Did every kenshi in Team USA, or something of that caliber start Kendo when they were kids?
I found this. Given their age and rank, the answer would be 'yes'.

I recently got destroyed in my first team shiai match (small club so mundansha were allowed to join the team) against someone on UofT's A team. Apparently he started when he was a kid. Pretty much ended in 10 seconds flat. Early Start + Dedication and Practice = Ultimate Kenshi.

But it takes a lot for kids to stick to Kendo. A lot of younger high ranked Kenshi seem to have started when they were young and were kind of forced to continue by their parents. I know for a fact that if I had started when I was 8-12 I wouldn't have stuck with Kendo given my attention span back then and my lack of enthusiasm towards anything other than Gameboy, Pokemon, and PS1.

I'm kind of surprised by the ages o.o. I guess they'll be 2 years older by the time the WKC happens again though.
