    Question The Clash

First, some background. My club has seperate classes for the bogu people and the beginners. We started doing kirikareshi (stupid phonics...) a couple of weeks ago, but did the men strikes on a shinai over head. Last practice, we got someone in bogu to recieve, and started doing taiatari on the first men.

So, how hard to people taiatari? Do people get rowdy and run into each other full force, or do they just kind of touch kote with a push off? I have not seen any clips with a big clash, but it seems like it could be fun. Something else to lookout for at the least.

It is Kirikaeshi not Kirikareshi lol the meaning is Repeated Cutting. I don't really understand the point of Taiatari except is stops you hurting your partner and sets you up for Hiki techniques.

A sensei that visits my Dojyo quite a lot said you could use Taiatari to knock back your partner and get the distance for the next cut but one time some one did this against me on a Jikeiko and gave me just the right momentum for a men cut .

I would rather cut a good shoumen bring my hands into taiatari (Remember to keep them low) use no pressure and wait for my partner to make the distance to start.

Remember few martial arts are done with power and accessive force. You are just giving your opponent your power.

Revolution rock... huh? Hey wait, your talking about taiatari. Damn. You should hit your partner with enough force to at least force him back a little but you don't want to bowl people down. I guess it really depends on what your sensei say (who you really should be asking); mine have always requested you put some 'umph' into it.

    ROCK THE CASBAH !

Now the king told the boogie men
You have to let that raga drop
The oil down the desert way
Has been shakin' to the top
The sheik he drove his Cadillac
He went a' cruisnin' down the ville
    The muezzin was a' standing
    On the radiator grille

    CHORUS
    The shareef don't like it
    Rockin' the Casbah
    Rock the Casbah
    The shareef don't like it
    Rockin' the Casbah
    Rock the Casbah

    By order of the prophet
    We ban that boogie sound
    Degenerate the faithful
    With that crazy Casbah sound
But the Bedouin they brought out
    The electric camel drum
    The local guitar picker
    Got his guitar picking thumb
    As soon as the shareef
    Had cleared the square
    They began to wail

    CHORUS

    Now over at the temple
Oh! They really pack 'em in
The in crowd say it's cool
    To dig this chanting thing
But as the wind changed direction
    The temple band took five
    The crowd caught a wiff
    Of that crazy Casbah jive

    CHORUS

The king called up his jet fighters
He said you better earn your pay
Drop your bombs between the minarets
    Down the Casbah way

As soon as the shareef was
    Chauffeured outta there
    The jet pilots tuned to
    The cockpit radio blare

As soon as the shareef was
    Outta their hair
    The jet pilots wailed

    CHORUS

    He thinks it's not kosher
    Fundamentally he can't take it.
You know he really hates it
    Khabbi

Tai-atari should ideally be done with the full force of the hara (hip). No upper body strength should really be involved.
I gather you are not yet in bogu, so I would do it relativly gently, as you dont have kote to protect your hands.

P.S. Musha, it *is* common knowledge that you use tai-atari to unsettle the opponent.

Somewhere in the middle. After taiatari, you should be seperated back to tip to tip distance, so there should be enough force there to cause that much seperation. If you knock the motodachi back that far, good for you. If he's doing his job though, he should go back somewhat and you should rebound somewhat.

    Tai-atari has rule too.
you need to let your arm fold right after you hit men.
otherwise you will end up punching moto-dachi.

So it would be big men - release your arm strength - going back to chudan(at least left knuckle to chudan position) - at this point should be flattened tuba-zeriai - push with hara/koshi

London calling to the faraway towns
Now that war is declared and battle come down
    London calling to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard all you boys and girls
London calling now don't look at us
All that phony Beatlemania has bitten the dust
London calling see we ain't got no swing
'Cept for the ring of that truncheon thing

The ice age is coming, the sun is zooming in
Engines stop running and the wheat is growing thin
A nuclear error but I have no fear
London is drowning and I live by the river

London calling to the imitation zone
Forget it, brother, an' go it alone
London calling upon the zombies of death
Quit holding out and draw another breath
London calling and I don't wanna shout
But when we were talking I saw you nodding out
London calling see we ain't got no highs
Except for that one with the yellowy eyes

    Chorus

    Now get this
London calling yeah I was there too
An' you know what they said? Well some of it was true
London calling at the top of the dial
After all this won't you give me a smile?

I never felt so much alike
