Lightbulb Looking for Kendo Dojo in Belfast Northern Ireland

I'm very keen to get a Kendo club off the ground in Belfast. If anyone else is out there I suggest we get together as many steady practitioners as possible and try to find a suitable venue. Once we have the costs evaluated and we establish a viable plan then perhaps we can attract Sensei to the dojo on a regular basis.

In the meantime however I would simply like to hear from anyone else in the Belfast area that would like to train together as my four walls are bored of observing my suburi.

One of our dojo members is from Belfast (though living in Newcastle) and is currently in the process of setting up a dojo there with a few other people. PM me and I'll send you the relevant details.

They will have to pry the sword from my cold dead fingers....
Why are you reading this instead of being out training???? Excuses not accepted....

I posted a thread a few years ago on the same subject and glad to finally find someone else who is keen to start a club. I practiced in Edinburgh for a few years and would like to get back into training again. I'd be very rusty (it's been about 7 years), but keen to get something put together. I'm sure some of the guys from Edinburgh would love to come over and help getting things going. I've heard the Dublin dojos would also have a few people that would support such a venture. Let me know and we could try and get this started, it's long overdue! Kim

I've also sent an email to John Donaldson so hopefully we'll get some more people gathered soon. What level have you practiced at? I've only reached shodan and it's been a few years so would be good if we had some higher grades to help with getting things started.
Have you done any research on costs, venue, club structure etc?

Hi there, great to hear there's more people wanting to do kendo in Northern Ireland. I've just registered a dojo in Belfast and you'd be more than welcome to come down and join in the next practice. I've already arranged support from members of Dublin dojo and also from members of dojo's in England. Naturally you'd be more than welcome to join the dojo or if you do want to set up your own I can talk you through whats required as I've just been through it myself. Feel free to email me at kendokelso@gmail.com for more info, our next practice will be in February. We also will be organising day trips to Dublin to train there on a Saturday. So get in touch, join in the fun and I'll be happy to help / assist in any way I can.

I'm keen to join an already existing Dojo thats up and running if the practice times suit. I have emailed you for details Kelsojo. If it looks like we can make it work then great. I think this would be best as you have already got the ball rolling and we need experienced players to train with. I'm 2nd kyu by the way. I have not been in a dojo for 6 years but have kept up a great deal of my training on a daily basis, but I'm really missing the keiko.

kcherry and isildor, I've emailed you both information about the dojo. Great you're both so keen, isildor, I'm very impressed with your suburi efforts! This dojo has been set up with one main goal, to facilitate kendo in Northern Ireland, as there aren't many of us at this point I'm more than happy to take info from yourselves and plan sessions as best I can to suit you both as well as other members! If you can make the next practice in Feb we can have a chat about what best suits you and take things from there, I'd be very happy for you both to join the dojo and help me establish kendo in Northern Ireland! As I said before anything I can do to help you both get back to doing kendo please just let me know.
