    Hakama control

Interesting control of the hakama in this video, I've not seen it before (doesn't mean much) and wonder if anyone can enlighten me as to its use, ryuha origins etc...

I have seen this many times in Muso Shinden Ryu Chuden and Okuden/

In training I get beaten by kaso tekki regularly, but I try not to let it happen in public.

Can hakama become such a problem in some kata in the remaining Hasegawa eishin ryu series?

I bought a MSR Koryu DVD from Tozando and the hachidan hanshi demonstrating has this really nice way of handling the right leg of his hakama. He sweeps the left leg in the usual way and as his right knee goes down he grabs a handful of the right hakama leg directly at the side of his right leg and 'places' carefully to the side. His hakama must be stiff because when I've tried to emulate it, I just can't do it as neatly. Nice!

What the women of the CKF are supposed to use (a bit more subtly) for hakama sabaki, the men still just flail away as if swatting flies around their feet.

The temptation is to slap those hakama legs hard, emitting uncouth 'booms' because there's nothing worse than sitting down for an embu and not feeling cold hard floor under your feet. You know you're going to have problems like standing up for ukenagashi whilst your hakama remains seated and realising you're wearing you PVC undies

That's how I was taught to do it for Musoshindenryu, and how we do it in our dojo.
