    No way!

As soon as word gets out, you (all) will be knocking on my door, all hours of the day and night, with all sorts of ridiculous excuses like "Hey, I, uh, need to cut down the really tall grass behind my house! Can I borrow the naginata?!?" And I'll never see her again.

    Or ... something like that...

My husband read the description for me, as I cannot read kanji. Something about the artifact was 'registered' in 1952. This might imply that it cannot be taken out of Japan as it is considered an antiquity. We have e-mailed the info@ address to see if this is the case. Will let you know if we get a response.

The price is listed as 280,000 MAN yen, so that price is actually 2,800,000,000 yen!!!!! (around 28 million US dollars)

Even if you were allowed to take it out of Japan.....

    $28M???

Are you sure??? 28 million US dollars would make it one of the most expensive artifacts in the world.

    Well DANG!
Now I'm never going to get the tall grass behind my house mowed down!

The company e-mailed us back, the artifact can be removed from Japan but must first 'be registered' so expect the purchase to take from 5 days up to maybe 3 weeks. Not enough details for us to know exactly what this registration entails.

The company also would like to point out this naginata is of 'artistic value' and they do NT recommend treating it as a cutting implement.

$28M seems a unbelieveably high amount, although that is what the page says; because when it comes to Japanese arts and antiquities, 340 years is not that old. Maybe something else very special about the naginata?

"To each his own," said the old lady as she kissed her cow....

Everyone's taste in art and artifacts is different ....

    http://www.askmen.com/toys/top_10/43b_top_10_list.html

lists the "Top 10 Most Expensive Paintings Sold
    {as researched} By Dennis O'Connell"

    hat tip....

None of the art listed is Asian/Oceanic in origin, but price wise, $28M looks pretty reasonable in comparison.

    Yeah I'll buy it.
I've been saving my allowance, $28 is nothing, we all know zeros mean nothing.

Actually, I think it is just 280,000 yen. If the price is XX man yen, they use the 万 character. 28 oku yen is a bit much....
