Seven Samurai, definitely ranks high, followed closely by Ran and Yojimbo, Yojimbo is just a fun movie all around.

Seven Samurai is definetly one of the best.

I watched Ran, but got a bit bored of it.
    Last Samurai is'nt even close.
    I liked Ninja Scroll.*

    Seven Samurai is great.
I saw a new Movie last night at the cinema. Its called Zatoichi.
About a blind Samurai acting out as a massuer.
I loved it. Funny, heaps of action and if you think Kill Bill had some gory parts in it, this one destroys it..
If its at a theatre or on DVD in your country, I highly recommend it.
    Its a Takeshi Kitano film...

    twilight samurai

Just saw that film last night and it was very good. The depiction of the kodachi waza was most excellent. The historical context and content was also very good. Highly recommend it. BTW this is a new film

Twighlight Samurai is yet another excellent Sanada Hiroyuki film (this time using a shortsword, in Onmyoji he used a chinese broadsword and in Last Samurai a katana), came out in 2002 or early 2003, is available on fairly cheap DVD from Hong Kong with acceptable English subtitles.

Warning - A superb period piece rather than an action film - pure action heads should be warned there are only 2 fight scenes in it .

So many good samurai movies though - Ran, Kagemusha, Yojimbo, Throne of Blood, Sanjuro, the Lone Wolf and Cub series, the Blind Swordsman series. And so many appalling ones....

But for me 7 Samurai is still the best.

    more choices

If you have not seen Samurai Banners or the Last Swordsman not to mention the whole Nemuri Kyoshiro series starring Ichikawa Raiso then it is still an open question. The Full Moon Cut series is one to see if you are a fan of these chambarra films.
