    recommending a new Kendo manga

I highly recommend a kendo manga called "Ippon" ("一平" - I think that's how it's pronounced in Japanese).

it's about a rookie joining the the Japanese police force and how his kendo life was affected by his experiences. he never joined the riot squad, but was instead assigned to a patrolling position but his kendo was better for it etc.

excellent manga on Jodan, highly recommended.

Is the title "一平" or "一本?" What's the author's name in kanji?

I did a search on comics.yahoo.co.jp with "一平" and couldn't find anything.

    Thanks.

the author's called "太田垣康男" and the manga's called "一平".

unfortunately I don't know how to pronounce these words in Japanese so I would be grateful if someone who could read kanji could provide a quick translation.

see here for a (very) small synopsis and the cover http://www.comicscafe.com.hk/book0099.htm

The title may be 一本. Since Chinese hanzi and Japanese Kanji are essentially different from each other. I have never heard of this manga myself.

By the way, does anybody know where I can get 六三四の剣. I read a preview of the manga on a webpage and I would like to know more.

"Ippei" was a cult manga published in the late 90s. I haven't read it, but isn't it about a policeman with disability doing kendo?

"Ippei"? so that's what it's called in Japanese.

the disabled guy uses only his left hand and does jodan, and is the antagonist. a "shura" in the musashi-no-ken series if you will.

I guess I should rephrse my title to be "introducing another kendo manga", rather than a "new" manga. my apologies.

and there's also another manga called "劍神長門烈" which I recently read. It was mainly about highschool kendo, and a new guy's life doing kendo. the main character does jodan as a newbie because he's got really strong right legs to push off with. not bad, although it's a tad painful to see crooked backfoot during kamaes.

    Recognize my avatar?

I got the complete series in Japanese and in Chinese.

The first 4 or 5 issues of "Ron" by Murakami Motoka, the same guy who did Musashi no Ken, also has some very good kendo scenes in it. More food for thought, IMHO....

    what's "Ron" in kanji?

I've always wonder where you got your avatar from. I guess this answers that question. do you do jodan too?

    Ron = Dragon

Check out the story synopsis here: Ron

It is still going, actually...but the main character's time in the Busen ends by book 4, pretty much.

And no, the main character didn't do Jodan in this one

There was also an application of "nuki-men" as strategy in the boardroom meeting, which was amusing.

Favorite saying from the comic in reference to a question, "Nioi da yo?"

As to Jodan, I don't have the strength or stamina for it yet. Until I can do katate-hayasuburi, I probably shouldn't.

I did use Jodan at the Yuan-Lin Tournament in 1999 because my left leg was getting tired from all the round-robin matches. I would return to Chudan when my left leg recovered. It was also a lot of fun to see your opponent's face when you change to Jodan after you got the first point.

    FWIW.
