For those who use tonkatsu sauce, do any of you make it from scratch? I just buy it from the store.

It's too hard to make it from scratch!

If you are ever in the Pacific Northwest, go to Saito's in Belltown.

They make their tonkatsu sauce from scratch, and you can take the difference. This is the traditional dark red colored one that I've had since I was about 4.

Maekawa Bar in the International District has a Miso-based tonkatsu sauce which is also good.

There's a couple of good off-the-shelf brands...but it just isn't the same.
