    How long can a shinai normally last?

    just read Kote-Men break his carbon shinai in 2 days.

    Can anyone tell me, how long can a shinai last?

    It depends on how you mantain it and on how many times you practice a week. My first shinai lasted about 8 months but I was practicing only one time a week. It broke on the first week I started going three times a week. That was on march. My current shinai was bought in the same week and is still good for another month or two. But I live in a city with high humidity which helps to conserve it. I also oiled it with linseed oil made for wooden recorders (which was quite expensive) and cuddled it at night (no bed-flute jokes please) and sang lullabies to it.

    A carbon shinai should last a long time. I don't know how someone managed to break one in just two days.. O.O;;
