    All Japan Taikai

I should hopefully be getting a ticket to the All Japan Taikai on Nov 3rd. Is anyone else on the forum going?

I would so like to watch.. how much are tickets?
Can anyone tell me how the all-japan kendo comp is run? i mean.. i'm sure there are thousands, maybe not thousands but hundreds at least, of competitors.. how do they organize the prelim rounds and such? i'd imagine it being run throughout the year to eliminate most competitors and then holding the higher rounds over the last couple of days or is there something else. Is there a strict criteria you have to meet before entering?

In the months before the competition there is Tournaments in every Prefectures.

The people who place in top for these tournament get a ticket for the all japan.

Smaller Prefectures usualy only send one participant (the winner of the prefectrue tournaments). Bigger Prefectures send more people (tokyo sends 4 ).
Plus the winner of the last year tournament gets a free pass.

In total there is 64 participants on the day of the tournament.

    Go Mitsunobu Sato!!

I'm a fan so sue me.

He's got Ando pretty soon in his bracket though... at least he won't have to go through Iwasa again. Ando vs. Sato sounds like a hell of a match (match no.50 if all goes well).

(Kenji?) Shoudai didn't get to the finals this year. Too bad, I was looking forward to seeing his jodan again.

Any non-cops that look strong this year?

    Yup.

I have a short clip of him from last year (courtesy of Max actually) where he does something like kote-kote-men-kote-men-kote-men... Humans should not be able to do that. It was nuts. No ippon but plenty of spirit.

I heard he went into the police straight out of High School too, no University.

He's in Kanagawa so making the cut each year must be relatively tough. He might be injured of course.

Shodai Kenji is awesome... I have had the honor of practicing with him. Faster than Lightning out of hidari jodan. Believe me, it wasnt until the third time I played him that I could see his shinai. He is 22 and a yondan. His main teacher has been Chiba Sensei. He scored some beautiful men in the Kanagawa Ken Championship and was so fast that the refs didn&t catch a few of his kote! There was an article last year about him in a Japanese newspaper. He was doing 2000 suburi a day, the year, before the All Japan Kendo Championship *Zen Nihon Kendo Senchuken Taikai*/

Shodai wont be in the ZNKST this year because another awesome lighting quick guy by the name of Koyama/another hidari jodan specialist/ along with Takanabe will represent Kanagawa Ken this year... They are both Kanagawa Ken Police and yes, they train with the Miyazaki brothers and some other great teachers!
