Question: what sport is most like kendo?

OK, not including martial arts, what sport do you consider to be the closest to kendo and why?
Also, what type of sport do you consider to be the best preparation for kendo.

I always find myself relating whatever sport I am doing to kendo. My favourite is pool or snooker. Hardly aerobic, but I like hitting those balls sweetly. Reminds me of scoring a good point in kendo.

Would certainly help the cauliflower ear.

I follow Rugby League more closely than Union. Players I'd love to see try their hand at kendo would be Peter Sterling (even now in middle age), Billy Slater, Karmichael Hunt (love the step), Matt Utai (imagine being tsukied!), Sonny Bill Williams and the rest of the Canterbury Bulldogs lineup.

Kiai golf has been well documented.

A friend of mine does tennis and tells me that he finds it really helps his kendo, something about how it strengthens their leg muscles alot, unfortunatly, he told me it does not help at all with his upperbody, I beleive he said that he uses different muscles. Hope it helps.

Even better is billiards, but I am hopeless at billiards so I don't play it much.
The best billiards player of all time was the great Australian Walter Lindrum . He still holds the record for the fastest billiards century (just 46 seconds). Now there's a man who should have played kendo.

I find running helps my kendo. It improves my cardiovascular endurance and my ability to focus. I think about kendo and iaido while running. I don’t mind running with other people as it makes the activity more social I guess. However, i do enjoy going for a run on my own, in my own time, trying to better my distance with every run while trying to maintain a constant speed. I don’t run with headphones on as I like to take in all that is going on around me. It is very therapeutic and the endorphin high lasts quite a while.

I've got a mate who competes in 800m events and runs constantly. I remember that he told me he likes doing sums in his head while running. He's the fastest runner I've ever met and the fastest at doing sums too (he's a punter too which helps).
