no, i would not.....'seen one reality tv show, 'seen 'em all.
further, its not reality. no one can be themselves in front of a camera. every puts on an act.
american talk shows and their 'reality' shows prove that. we also have a our share of this crap genre.
'reality tv' is an oxymorn unless its a hidden camera and that is just plain boring.

I fenced saber for 5 years before I began kendo and took place in several tournaments and I have to say ( loving both styles of swordwork) that they are not really compattible and they are not meant to be. European fencing is coming from a different school of thought than kendo. Stances, strikes, parrys, and footwork are executed very differently in the two disciplines. Targets in saber and kendo are similar but that is really all.

I totally agree, however, I did a bit of epee and foil... It just doesn't seem to fit together at all. As for Fencing, almost the whole body is a target, even legs/feet, armpits, etc. whereas in kendo, you are limited to the nine targets.

Fencing targets vary according to weapon, right? Isn't foil the only valid target the torso. Sabre is torso and head. Isn't it only the epee that anywhere is a target?

As for kendo, 9 targets? Thought there were only 4, maybe more if you count left and right dou, etc, but 9?

    I'm so confused...

i thought there were only 4.
    can anyone explain the rest?

    Kendo reality TV...

    hmm...

    gotta think about that one

  10. #25
    Oh!

But the kendo vs fencing was really funny.

Fencing has the long reach = advantage fencing
Fencing is faster = advantage fencing

Kendo would do better when up close = advantage kendo
Kendo is stronger(power) = advantage kendo

    ...what am I talking about...haha

    They're both great to watch!!

In saber, the entire head, your sword wrist and elbow, your chest, abdomen and shoulders, and if you can manage it the back. In saber the legs are not a target because the style is derived from fighting on horseback.

How about a reality show about kenshi who'd go through a traditional kendo training, you know the way the old senseis used to train for lets say a month, it would be like boot camp

So if it was the old way then we'd see only footwork drills and maybe some suburi at the end of the month... Traditional training doesn't fit reality tv type peoples likes... it would take too long, unless you really sped it up and did time lapses to "get to the good stuff"...
