I read that Japanese battles during their civil war was similar to the European style of warfare in the 1700's in that they lined up guys with muskets and shot at each other until one side was on the ground clutching open holes in their bodies.

Of course, then there's the romantasized versions of samurai/ronin going at it in the streets of Kyoto depicted in all the movies, books, manga, anime that takes place during the time period.

And there's the lovely Last Samurai movie which had about as much historical accuracy as Tom Cruise was Japanese.

    Hi Zehm bah deh-San...

I did a quick search on Google using keyword 'bakumatsu' and one of the first links is a photographic archive at Nagasaki University where you can search using the keyword 'battlefield'... http://oldphoto.lb.nagasaki-u.ac.jp/unive/

    Hope this helps...

    Cheers

The crab must do this all his life and his body accommodates this. . . so brave to resign his life to such a Fate.

Ultimately, the crab represents the Life we must all lead and how, more often than not, we must accept our Karma..."

    Hi ya !

the term of 'Bakumatsu' is probably too broad to find out any useful information of a battlefield.

Why don't you seek the term "Boshin war" on goolge or others. The first Boshin war took place in Toba and Fushimi near Kyoto on 27 January. the biggest battle field was around Northen Japan. The end of war was in Hokkaio. I am sure you will get many interesting informations.
