I'm going. I heard its in UMich. (Wolverine land) I heard the campus is reallly nice that time of year. Can't wait. Oh ya... have to compete too. LOL

EDIT- As for whos gonna win. Who knows? We're training pretty hard for this (most of us in NCKF since last year) so I believe that we will have a good showing. I'm pretty sure that other feds would prefer to disagree with me.

See you there...and may the best kenshi win. It would be nice if they were also able represent USA at the Words.

Western fencing adopted the so-called Okawa Rule (See info for members, Operations Manual, Rule III, 1, A, 2 after Maestro Okawa took the national championship in foil 2 years running while living in the US as a Japanese national. BTW, Okawa, the son-in-law of Mori Torao Sensei is a San Dan in Kendo. Since he married Mori Senseis daughter who was a formidable fencer in her own right he has been given a green card.

Well that may be true, but I'd like to know why they adopted it for US Kendo. Not insinuating anything but its just FMI. (for my information)

But anyways, it should be a good tournament.

When the AUSKF was formed I proposed a "guest membership for foreign nationals" and a regular membership for US citizens. This was rejected by the board of directors. So if there are only full memberships, a certain class of members could not be descriminated against because of their citizenship while paying full dues. So you have any member eligble to compete in the AUSKF Championship regardless of citizenship. Some would argue that as long as you created a division for the the non-citizens your not descriminating. Based on that one would guess segregation was not descrimination either. The equal but seperate argument.
There are all kinds of US championships especially at the college level that have non US citizens competing and winning.
I suggest the younger members become involved in changing AUSKF if it is a concern how it operates.
How do you like the fee schedule for the taikai?
PNKF members will have to suck up about $1000 per member if we go full meal deal. If you don't see us at the party thats $50 people decided not to spend.

I thought it was very expensive and did not think we were going to spend the $$ but then the board decided to do it. Personally, I would rather have seen a lower price for the dinner party with a cash bar. At least 75% of our participants are under 21 and $50 is a lot.

So I hear that now they're charging $50 for each division. So you have to pay for both team and singles.

I also just heard that the AUSKF has almost $500k in the bank. What's with all the fees? Are they going to hand out those cheap plaques again?

Here's a single fencing club in NY. Has more assets than the entire ASUKF:

    FENCERS SCHOOL INC
    119 W 25TH ST
    NEW YORK, NY 10001

PROVIDE VARIOUS PROGRAMS TO HELP NEEDY CHILDREN LEARN THE SPORT OF FENCING

    EIN: 13-2959888
This organization files an IRS Form 990 or 990-EZ. It is a 501(c)(03) public charity. Information in this report is derived from IRS From 990, 990-EZ, or 990-PF, an annual report filed by nonprofit organizations.

Financial Snapshot for Fiscal Year Ending 2003

    http://www.guidestar.org/servlet/GsF...04&iehack=.png
    '
    Revenue:$305,206
    Expenses:$333,913
    Assets:$226,623
    Liabilities:$20,404

So the AUSKF is really pretty small potatoes since the membership of this club is probably far less than the entire AUSKF.

Here the website for the NY Fencing Club. Check out the membership fees and see if you would pay that rate for a dedicated site.

I would imagine in NY you need that much to survive. Have you checked out the NY kendo dues? They're high too.

The question for the AUSKF is what are they going to do with the money? They just seem to be holding more and more and doing nothing much with it. Have they been to your area yet? Where I'm at it doesn't matter since we see all these guys anyway.

One of the two main reasons, the other was it was downtown and nobody knew their way around and didn't want to be driving and drinking. We opted for a smorgas board place in little Tokyo and then all gathered together back at the hotel. It was very convient because we could easily walk there and the price was very reasonable.
Currently at least half of our team have said they aren't going to the party. For some of our team members going to nationals is really a strain. LA wasn't as bad because the airfare was cheaper. Detroit is running an average of around $400 airfare + hotel, meals, entry fee, transportation etc.

    fruit and vegetables

Well I don't know much about small potatoes or even apples and oranges but I am pretty familiar with the AUSKF finances. They don't have a program to help needy children, they really don't have a program to help needy kendo clubs. I do know that they spend very little of the membership funds on the members. Unless you are on the US team.
I would say this, unless you are historically knowledgeable about the national kendo organization and its evolution it is very hard to compare it to other organizations.
Theodore since your there with Stroud Sensei you can ask him a few questions.
