    Question $$$ ?

    Hey guys
I'm doing a research with a friend and we need some information on how much kendo costs.
We're comparing different martial arts expenses in order to find the best and cheapest one

How much did you spend for kendo in the past year?

    Thanks guys ^-^

My reponse will be WAY too much..... not to mention that I broke more shinai than what my bogu costs me ...... You are looking at my annual budget for kendo is like aus$00+ (includes club fee, membership fee, replacement costs of shinais .....)

But then, I'm still with it because I enjoy kendo more

    Costs of martial arts

That survey has been done on usenet. If you use google news to search rec.martial-arts you should be able to find it.

hey... we're trying to do our own research (otherwise we can lose points if we use something already done...) like comparing different shops too...

    Nito shinai pair : U$ 60
Kendoshop big ass uniform set : U$ 120
Kendoshop small ass uniform set : U$ 30 (hey, it was renewal year)

Plus about U$ 80 for gym room rental (my share)
    And U$ 100 (Grading trip & fees)

But I got plenty of gifts from japanese sensei (2 39 shinai, one of them a Hasegawa CF39, a heel pad and a nice keikogi)

Last year I spent roughly $2200 cdn, but that was entirely used for buying bogu, 2 pairs of hakama, a keiko-gi, an uwagi, a bokutou and several shinai. My parents and family also spent a few hundred on two bags from bujin (collective christmas presents). If that is factored into the total, $2700 cdn, rougly.

I always try to make weird thread titles... But is this one relevent? It's mostly about how much your local Kendo Fed charges for membership fee and gradings.

    As for my last year....
    Kendo equipment expenses (in USD):
    Keikogi =$34
    Kodachi (bokken) =$17
    Shinai*2 =$68
    Tenegui*3 =$24
    Grading+Menjo=$40
Travel =in the UK is better because there is always someone else driving... but in Hong Kong I'm spending as much as the monthly practice fee to ge to the dojo...

Meanwhile I'm saving up for some Naginata gears

kendo costs per year are very relative, since the first year is usually a lot more expensive(buying uniform and bogu) than the other years.

anyway, i dont think kendo will score on your list as one of the cheapest martial arts. the cheapest of all must be tew-ryu. they only have to buy funky black pajamas.

as for my last year i spent... too... much. it hurts just to think how many shinais i've had to buy. and all those beers after training... oh my.
