    Lightbulb new waza???

    Mina san konnichiwa~

While researching on various kendo waza avaliable... to make them look more systematic... This is what I got :-

    Shikake Waza (offensive)
    1. one strike (shomen/migi-man/hidari-men)
    2. Debana
--strikes into the opponent just as he/she is beginning a strike.
    3. Harai
--when there is no opportunity to attack, deflect the opponent’s shinai and striking as one breaks down the opponent’s stance.
    4. Hiki
    --from tsuba-zeriai
    5. Renzoku/Nidan/Sandan
    --continuous attacks
    6. Katate
    --one hand strike
    7. Jodan
    --yeah, starts from jodan
    8. Katsugi
--carry your shinai over your left shoulder, then strike when your opponent becomes confused...

    Oji Waza (Defensive & Counter-attack)
    1. Nuki
    --evading
    2. Kaeshi
--block your opponent's attack with the side of your shinai, simultaneously shifting your body to the left/right and counter attack
    3. Suriage
    --deflection
    4. Uchi-Otoshi
--beat the attacking shinai downwards, taking your advantage of your opponent's momentary loos of control, counterattack!
    5. Maki-Otoshi
    --rotation

Please double check as I may be wrong. There should me more then these... I would like to know if someone has inspiration from Koryu~ Also, would it be possible to invent your own?

And which one is your favourite? either your best, or the best you've ever received?

    Have fun

The only classes of waza I've seen or heard about, other than the ones you've listed, are:

Suri-otoshi: the mechanics work similarly to suri-age, except the parrying comes on your downswing rather than the upswing. Essentially you both cut down the center at the same time, but you keep on center and make aite miss.

Maki-age: identical to maki-otoshi, except that you perform a whole number of circles, sending aite's shinai up instead of down. However, when I have to classify waza, I just put these both in a general maki-waza catagory, as the mechanics are identical. Oh, and I've always thought maki-waza were shikake waza.

As said, inspirational but from a point of view from koryu impossible?. If we were to create new waza who are we going to try them out on?

There are waza and kae/henka waza but no new waza. This is called kata

    Hey Mingshi,

My Fav Shikake waza is men- Debana kote.

My Fav Oji waza is men- Suriage men.

As for other techniques not listed don't forget Hikihana waza- applying lots of pressure to your opponent's centre and then cutting them as they attempt to retreat. Also Tsuki was not listed er... dont' want to forget that one!!

The best I have received was an attempted kote by me then a good Nuki men. You can't help but feel stupid when the kote disappears and then you get a good cut on your men!

I have invented some techniques of my own but they involve fooling the opponent or confusing them so as to create an opening then I will just do a straight forward Men, Kote, Do or Tskui depending on the situation.

Bart- "Dad I gave up playing the guitar because it was too hard- I hope your not mad."

Homer- "Son, son if something is too hard to do then it's not worth doing. Just put the guitar in the cupboard along with your short wave radio and karate oufit and we'll go inside and watch TV."

    Bart- "What's on?"

    Homer- "It doesn't matter."

    Fav Waza

Katsugi-Men - I find it good against people who are a shorter than you. As you can just cut straight over the top of their shinai.

Kote Nuki-Men - "John W" I agree it does make you feel really stupid, but gives you a really good boost if you manage pull it of yourself.

    Red face on waza

I remember on one aikido lesson, a sensei showed some techniques that "contradict" the kendo teachings (because I told him that I'm doing kendo...) say, going off center by moving to the left/right, and deflecting the sword using the flatness of it. And later on he explained that "this is from itto-ryu, that one's from yagyu". Some of them were covered in Kendo kata. That's why I want to know if koryu kenjitsu has more on kendo waza.

Seems limited for modern kendo really, for Ono-ha Itto-ryu itself has 50+ hon-me kata already
