Just to clarify, it's a duraluminum IBB men. Check out www.moribudo.co.jp and check out their low-end "hygenic" bogu sets. They come with IBB duraluminum.
I will give a shameless plug. It's worth getting IBB duraluminum 5mm men from Mori Budo.

I'm just curious, how often has anybody seen or heard of a MENGANE breaking, or cracking during a practice or match?

Mengane will not break from a shinai. No matter how many times you try. Its like battling a Lion vs a little puppy. The Mengane will only break if you dont treat it with respect , for example, throwing it on the ground, hitting it with something besides a shinai, and other things that are not nessesary. Its not like a shinai, it wont just " break", unless you do something to it. Anyways I could be wrong, so lets hear other's opinions.

on my good bogu my mengane is the IBB All-Titanium one from chibabogu.
(actually, i wasnt 100% sure until i checked the website (http://www.chibabogu.com/catalog/inf...php?info_id=18) and saw that there is an IBB mark on the mengane... i *just* looked at mine now and there it was: IBB.)

anyway, my men feels *much* heavier than my other old one.... and, after using it for almost 2 years now, i would say that i would probably pick a lighter men over a heavier one, despite the material used. im not a big guy with a bull-dog neck, so it probably wasnt the right choice for me.

the men is excellent though (just heavy).

Or their "special price" Men M-M5 seems like the same form the 5 mm set and at 13 650 yen it is the very best you can get for that kind of money. IMO.

I think the aluminum alloy mengane don't hold up well to mengane-mengane contact - so people who do rough tiatari may need the titanium.

That, and titanium is such a cool metal.

Yeah IBB-Titanium should be really heavy... but IBB Duralumin should be ok I believe. Is Moribudogu the only supplier that features this " IBB" ?

But, because it is better balanced, it doesn't feel as heavy.

Put it back on your list.

    Hank.

Sooo true. We have some ppl here in the feds i have been in leading with the head during taiatari. I have stood straight and have even tried leaning back a bit during taiatari as an experiment and they still whack my mengane... It sucks... I have seen cracked duralumin mengane. Mine (IBB titanium) has dents in it.

Actually, there is a place in San Jose that sells bogu and other kendo supplies. Whether it is a "good bogu shop" or not, I don't know. However they were at last Sunday's Kihon Taikai in San Jose, and also at the NCKF Summer Camp, and I believe at the San Jose Kendo Dojo Taikai this year as well. I believe their name is Seyhun, or something like that (anyone who knows this place, please feel free to correct me). I have their card in my bogu bag, but it's at home right now.

That being said, I do like the quality and service I get from eguchi. As has been mentioned before, Lisa and the rest of the staff are very customer-oriented and kendo knowledgeable. If you don't want to drive down to LA/Torrance (especially with gas crossing the $3/gallon threshold), I imagine they'll be at the NCKF championship taikai on September 25 in San Jose.

    Good luck,

Thanks guys, I know IBB has good balance but I'm more worried about whether my neck can support such weight. I don't have strong neck and each time eventhough I did my taiatary correctly (body not head), if my opponent push real hard my head will go forward. Kind of like those experiences in a car crash where your head go forward and your body still stick to the seat due to seatbelts?
